"The moment diagram"
Something I made and share with my A-level students
To help know the anticlockwise or clockwise direction.
Whenever you decide to take moments at a point:
Simply look at where the force is positioned from two angles
1)Is it facing Up or Down?
2)Is it on Right or Left side?
If force is Upwards and right side=anticlockwise
If force is Downwards and right side=clockwise
If force is Upwards and left side =clockwise
If force is Downwards and left side=anticlockwise
Comment below how useful you find this diagram.
Repost to help a friend who might need this
P:S This idea came up to mind after thinking about the CAST Diagram(completely different topic to moments!)

7 proven tips to pass a GCSE Maths Resit 💡
Resitting GCSE Maths isn’t about working harder.
It’s about working smarter in the short time you have.
Here are 7 proven tips given that have helped my students in weeks prep:
1️⃣ Start from your grade, not the beginning
If you got a Grade 3 before, start revising from Grade 3 topics and above.
2️⃣ Focus on exam topics, not school topics
Schools teach textbook topics. Stick to past papers to learn the exam’s language.
3️⃣ Have a new strategy
Your last grade was the result of your last approach. Change the method to change the outcome.
4️⃣ Use the “3-mark average” rule
This is my favourite and so is for students I tell. Since students never check how many marks they actually need to get the grade.
Here’s how:
Count the marks you’re away from your target grade.
Divide by 3 (the average exam question is worth 1–5 marks, with 3 as the middle ground).
Example: If you’re 12 marks away, 12 ÷ 3 ≈ 4 questions.
That’s it. Just get 4 more questions correctly and you’ve hit your goal.
Less stress now thinking about a number 4 than the number 12.
5️⃣ Create an exam hall environment
When going over a past paper, put yourself in the exact same situation as your test. Time yourself. No notes. Just work and solve problems.
6️⃣ Prioritise Algebra and Geometry
All maths papers will contain so many different questions coming from these 2 major topics alone. Know these inside out.
7️⃣ Improve your accuracy
You know the methods but skipping time to check can cost you heavily. Building exam discipline in accuracy is often the final step to success.
All these tips can be applied at your own pace.
With a tutor, it will speed up your revision time like my previous students.
P:S: Their are 5 weeks left so make it count.

Parents think schools cover exam topics early.
They’re wrong.
This week with one of my 1-1 students.
I asked him about these topics:
Indices
Simultaneous equations
Inequalities
Equations of lines
Sequences.
❌ He hadn’t seen any of them.
And he’s in Year 11 — the year of his GCSE exam.
These aren’t “optional” topics.
They’re the core exam topics that guarantee a Grade 5 in foundation.
So we started fresh. In one session, indices suddenly clicked.
Moments later he said
“Oh sir, it’s basically adding, subtracting, or multiplying the smaller numbers each time!”
That’s the breakthrough moment.
When maths stops feeling overwhelming and starts to feel simple.
At Math Tutor Insights, this is what we stand for:
Helping students turn confusion into clarity, confidence, and control.

Has this been you?
You’ve tried couple tutors, revision apps… nothing seems to click.
School said your child is “doing fine”.
Deep down, you know that’s not true.
Trying to get a different answer is frustrating.
The truth is this💭…
it’s not your child’s fault.
It’s the way they’ve been taught
or told to learn.
That’s why I offer a free value call📞

After 15 minutes you’ll discover:

Week 2 was critical.
Hence the topic covered as "Critical Regions"
90% calculator, 10% writing ✍️
Still… A-Level students struggle. Why?
This isn’t simple maths like typing 2+2=4.
It’s a whole different system
where numbers in a calculator have a new meaning.
And the biggest challenge? Remembering the exact buttons:
👉 Right button = Right region ✅
👉 Wrong button = Wrong region ❌
It really is that simple… and that tough.
Next weekend is Week 3️⃣
The final week on Mechanics.

Can small groups work for students on 3 different exam boards?
2025 GCSE results day proved the answer is yes.
We had students from AQA, Edexcel and OCR all in the same GCSE Higher group.
→ The lowest grade was a 6, the highest was an 8
→ Two decided on A-Level Maths
→ One even chose Further Maths
But it wasn’t easy.
OCR puts the non-calculator paper in the middle.
AQA and Edexcel put it first.
The exam structure wasn’t the biggest problem though.
The real challenge was choosing the right students.
I turned down more students than I accepted.
The first student mattered most. They set the tone for everyone else.
Character, effort and attitude meant more than potential or price.
That’s how the group stayed strong growing slowly during the year.
Students wanted to join because it was more affordable than 1-1.
But even then, not everyone got a place.
And textbooks? I skipped them.
They only add confusion when mixing exam boards.
Instead, the focus was on concepts and variations within Grade 7-9 topics.
Because what matters most is not the board, but how a topic can be tested in different ways.
Students didn`t ask “Which board is this?”. They were able to answer “What’s the concept behind this question?”
These same concepts and question variations prepared them better for mocks and the real exam too(on their exam boards!)
If your child is moving into Year 11 and you’d love them to be part of a small grade 7-9 focused group like this, now’s the best time to grab a place.

Why did my A-level student celebrate a C on Results Day?
In Feb 2024 this student was at an E.
Her goal was not an A or A*.
It was a paid degree internship.
The minimum entry requirement was a C in A-level Maths.
Most tutors would try push for perfect grades. With her I did not.
Because I knew exactly what she was chasing having done an 1yr internship at uni.
She worked part-time, sometimes full-time, while preparing for her exams.
She knew that experience will matter more than grades in the future.
When internship interviews came up, we split our sessions:
→ Half maths revision
→ Half interview prep
Several weeks later, she had multiple offers on the table.
Mocks came back April — she had gone from E to D.
All she needed was a C. She aimed for a B to be safe.
On results day, she opened the envelope.
C in Maths. Internship secured.
To her it felt like an A/A* because she got the internship.
And here is the truth:
Some students got an A/A* and still had no idea what to do next.
Grades only matter if they move you toward what you actually want.
If a B or C gets you to your next goal.
You have won on results day.
