GREAT NEWS! LSDN tender for Jobs and Skills for London has been successful!
In January 2022, the Mayor published his Skills Roadmap for London. The Roadmap sets out how the Mayor planned to ensure London’s skills offer better services to London’s communities and economies. This builds on the success of City Hall’s local leadership since the delegation of the Adult Education Budget to the Mayor in 2019.
In December 2022, the Mayor of London launched a new competitive grant award process – Jobs and Skills for Londoners. All skills providers who deliver adult education and training services to Londoners and located in London and the ‘London Fringe’ were eligible to apply. We are happy to announce that LSDN’s proposal was successful and we will be able to continue to deliver high-quality education and skills for Londoners in the 2023/24 academic year and beyond!
LSDN’s project has a key focus on supporting the most vulnerable groups of Londoners to access learning. These include Londoners with no or lower-level qualifications; Londoners in low-paid work; older Londoners (aged 50+) and young Londoners (aged 19-24); Londoners from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities; Londoners with disabilities and long-term health conditions; Londoners with English-language needs; people seeking asylum; adults with experience of the criminal justice system; and survivors of violence against women and girls. Our project will deliver courses in the digital; health and social care; hospitality; green; and education and training sectors, along with basic skills provision for learners with English & Maths skill needs. Our project aims to achieve the following economic and social outcomes: progression to employment; progression to further learning; in-work progression; volunteering; and improvements to learner health & wellbeing; social integration; and self-efficacy.
LSDN is proud to support Londoners with continued access to learning and progression to employment opportunities or further education. We look forward to being part of the The Jobs and Skills for Londoners group of providers and continue to provide educational learning support and help the Londoners gain skills and move into needed important sectors to bring growth to London’s economy.
Congratulations to the LSDN Team!

RACIAL EQUALITY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE
The Prime Minister has made a statement on racial equality and social justice. Education Organisations have been asked to share this message with their staff and students.
Prime Minister message on Black Lives Matter
The death of George Floyd took place thousands of miles away – in another country, under another jurisdiction – and yet we simply cannot ignore the depth of emotion that has been triggered by that spectacle, of a black man losing his life at the hands of the police.
In this country and around the world his dying words – I can’t breathe – have awakened an anger and a widespread and incontrovertible, undeniable feeling of injustice, a feeling that people from black and minority ethnic groups do face discrimination: in education, in employment, in the application of the criminal law. And we who lead and who govern simply can’t ignore those feelings because in too many cases, I am afraid, they will be founded on a cold reality.
Yes, I am proud to lead the most ethnically diverse government in the history of this country, with two of the four great offices of state held by a man and a woman of Indian origin; and yes, I am proud of the work I began to lead more than ten years ago to recruit and promote more young black people, in the police and other walks of life.
This country has made huge strides. I remember the 1970s, and the horror of the National Front. I truly believe that we are a much, much less racist society than we were, in many ways far happier and better.
But we must also frankly acknowledge that there is so much more to do – in eradicating prejudice, and creating opportunity, and the government I lead is committed to that effort.
And so I say yes, you are right, we are all right, to say Black Lives Matter; and to all those who have chosen to protest peacefully and who have insisted on social distancing – I say, yes of course I hear you, and I understand.
But I must also say that we are in a time of national trial, when for months this whole country has come together to fight a deadly plague.
After such sacrifice, we cannot now let it get out of control.
It is BAME communities who have been at the forefront of the struggle against coronavirus – whether in health care or transport or social care or any of the other essential services that have kept our country going.
And it is BAME communities, tragically, that have paid a disproportionate price.

COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) LATEST LSDN UPDATE – FRIDAY 12/06/2020 (10.30am)

SOCIAL JUSTICE AND THE SITUATION IN AMERICA
Those of you who have engaged with LSDN will know that as an organisation we are passionate about equality, social justice and the unequivocal respect of human rights for all. We reject all forms of discrimination, racism, injustice and abuse of power. We stand in solidarity with all those who feel marginalised, oppressed and have faced or experienced discrimination of any form.
Equality is a conscious choice, as with justice and anything else of importance, worth or value in our lives, it is something that we must all work hard to achieve and requires constant and conscious investment to maintain. We all have a choice and a role to play in advancing equality and social justice.
As an organisation that is dedicated to the principles of education and sharing knowledge, we encourage everyone to educate themselves on the subjects of racial equality, discrimination and unconscious bias. Let's make a commitment to use this time as an opportunity for both personal and societal growth and to work together for positive lasting change. As Martin Luther King said 'injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere'.
Finally, for anyone who may be intending to join any of the demonstrations or group gatherings planned to take place in London or across the UK, please take care to maintain social distancing and to take appropriate steps to protect yourself. Ethnic minority communities have been shown to be at greater risk of Coronavirus and although the infection rate has lowered, it has not gone away, continued caution is essential.
If you are affected by any of the above issues or would like to talk to someone in confidence, please call our confidential safeguarding line on 07823492658.

COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) LATEST LSDN UPDATE – THURSDAY 04/06/2020 (3.30pm)
Following on from last week's update introducing our plans for a phased re-opening of our offices and centres, in this week's bulletin, we provide a short update on our progress thus far and reflect on some of the wider issues affecting society at this time.
LSDN CENTRE RE-OPENING PROGRESS UPDATE
Following last week's news that we aimed to start cautious preparations towards a phased re-opening of our centres, we have made some excellent progress this week. We have completed a full site audit to identify the changes needed to our premises in line with government guidance and we have identified the resources and equipment required to enable safe working practices. Throughout the week, we have also consulted our staff in regards to their needs, preferences and priorities related to our re-opening plans.
Our primary method of course delivery will continue to be online for some time to come, however, we do hope to start welcoming students on a 1:1 or very small group basis from around the last week in June, this will probably only be for a few hours at a time initially, rather than a full day, due to the restrictions we will face across the premises and to limit risks to all involved. Look out for further updates in our upcoming weekly bulletins.
