We have been doing some training with National Numeracy over the past few weeks.
We truly believe that children's maths skills start at a young age and is nurtured through positive encouragement at home and at pre school/nursery/school.
If you would like to check your skills, or do some learning, please take a look at their website.
Do you ever hear yourself saying things like this?👇
🙅♂️“I’m not a maths person”
👩🏫“I hated maths at school”
🧠“I don’t have a maths brain”
Many of our learners have said things like this in the past. The has over 500,000 users AND many of them have improved their confidence with numbers by using it.
Hear from a few of these learners - including a healthcare assistant, business owner and treasury worker - to see what they think of the Challenge.
We are hiring!
Our people are what make our family great. We see childcare as a profession, not just a job!
Children are at the heart of everything we do, so we are looking for individuals to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. From being a princess one day to dinosaur the next, no two days are ever the same!
We are looking for a passionate and hard working individual to join our team as a childcare practitioner. Ideally you will hold a level 2 or 3 childcare qualification and have experience with working with children with Special Educational Needs.

We will be showing “Elf” to kick start our festive season 📽🎉
We have introduced a program to Small Explorers called myhappymind. myHappymind is all based around helping children to understand how their brain works and to support them in developing positive skills and habits to be their very best selves!
myHappymind is delivered in Small Explorers by room leaders/key workers through a series of stories and play based activities, then the children apply these learnings throughout the day.
The children have already enjoyed reading stories about perseverance and how practice helps to improve our skills. They have learned where our brains are and what they do.
We are excited to continue to work through this programme with the children!
The different types of physical development we encourage at Small Explorers Pre-school Using scissors in different ways to encourage fine motor skills that will eventually help with writing. Sticking these strips of paper to the table meant it stabilised the paper and allows the children to sit in different positions which also supports their gross motor skills.
The second picture shows how we support the gross motor skills. By creating different obstacles the children we able to throw balls through the hanging hoops, roll them down the guttering and tunnels. They were also learning about maths, counting, colours, turn taking and making relationships. And most of all, having fun!
