Sam has been instrumental in regenerating junior tennis provision at Croxley Tennis Club. Since the start of 2024, he has tripled the number of juniors playing at the club and revitalised the club’s schools programme which now has 14 schools and introduced a free to parents’ junior performance programme called ‘Croxley Crocodiles’. The club has a thriving junior community and Sam has created an environment both challenging and fun for children’s group sessions. Sam shows unwavering dedication, patience and genuine care for every player. He has even renovated old rackets to give less advantaged children the opportunity to have their own racket, meaning they have a feeling of inclusivity and can practice outside his sessions.

As well as offering regular coaching sessions at local schools he offered a free Tennis Sport Day which inspired many children to join club sessions and more schools to join the schools’ programme. In collaboration with local clubs Sam helps youngsters get used to match play; getting them used to a competitive environment and learning sportsmanship. Sam also works with the Club Captain and the Welfare Officer to ensure those juniors who are ready are included in the club’s adult tennis offering. Many of his players have enjoyed significant on-court success in local tournaments.

Using his excellent leadership skills, Sam has created a network of Junior Tennis Leaders who support him with coaching at his organised holiday clubs and after school activities. The young leaders have developed confidence and maturity and have become valuable role models for the younger children.

For the adults, Sam organises excellent group and individualcoaching sessions. Each coaching session is designed to reflect the needs of the participants but is varied so that it keeps their interest and provides lots of encouragement. His love of the game is infectious. He is positive, supportive and a wonderful motivator to all and his sunny outlook is loved by everyone across the club.
