What a beautiful sunny Autumn weβre having! βοΈπΎ
Certainly one of our favourite times of the year here at Crowland Community Preschool.
We have been embracing the beautiful colours, smells and textures of autumn at preschool! The children have enjoyed a wonderful range of autumn themed activities, giving them lots of opportunities to explore, investigate, create and learn through play.
π° Conker Hunting
We took a stroll to the Snowdon on a conker hunt, looking carefully under trees and collecting conkers to investigate. The children have enjoyed talking about what they can see, feel and notice, while developing their Understanding the World skills. Counting and sorting our conkers also encouraged early Mathematical thinking.
π± Cress Heads
The children have been busy making their own cress heads and learning what plants need to grow. They have been developing an understanding of the natural world, observing changes over time and taking responsibility for caring for their creations. This has also encouraged lots of new vocabulary and conversation, supporting Communication and Language.
π₯ Vegetable Painting
Our vegetable painting activity allowed the children to explore different shapes, patterns and textures while getting creative. They experimented with colours and printing using a variety of vegetables, supporting Expressive Arts and Design as well as developing their Physical Development through mark making and using different tools.
π Autumn Sensory Tuff Trays
Our autumn themed sensory tuff trays have been a big hit! The children have explored leaves, conkers, natural materials and different textures through hands-on play. These experiences encourage curiosity, investigation and descriptive language, while also supporting Communication and Language, Physical Development and Understanding the World.
π Cinnamon Playdoh Apple Pies
We have been using cinnamon in our sensory play as we explored the idea of making apple pies. The wonderful autumn smells provided a rich sensory experience, while the children mixed, scooped, poured and moulded their pretend ingredients. This supported Physical Development, Mathematics through counting and measuring, and Expressive Arts and Design through imaginative play.
π Learning Through Autumn Play
All of these experiences have provided opportunities for the children to develop across the seven areas of learning within the EYFS. Most importantly, the children have been learning through hands-on, meaningful play β building confidence, curiosity, communication, independence and a love of exploring the world around them.
We have loved seeing the childrenβs excitement as they discover all that autumn has to offer! πβ€οΈ
