When I wrote my book “We Are Not Seeing It: How & Why Mainstream Schools Break SEND Kids”, I wanted it to become less relevant over time.
I wanted it to become a relic, almost.
A signpost of a time that was passing - a time when abject cruelty to children in our school system, and the routine blocking and gaslighting of parents had seemed to be the norm, but was no longer acceptable.
I wanted it to become history.
When the government changed in July 2024, I truly thought “OK, here’s the beginning of the end. We won’t need this book much longer.”
The sad truth is, with the constant slew of DfE propaganda about 100% attendance ..
The automatic assumption of parent-blame ..
The anti-choice/anti-anything-but-mainstream mantra ..
And now some monstrous expectation/demand to put our kids in automatic, 12-hours a day, in-school wraparound care .. (when far too many schools can’t even look after our kids for 6 hours a day without breaking them..?)
Well, we can safely say things are *not* getting better.
If anything, the landscape for SEND families, for families of school age children in general, is just getting worse.
It feels like battle lines have been even more firmly drawn than ever before.
Sadly, my book is getting more and more relevant, every single time anyone in government opens their mouth 😔
