Today the weather has been kind, and our Year 7s all had a bit of breakfast before team building activities and a colour run in the afternoon.
Excellent day getting to know each other and tomorrow the lessons begin.
Well done all!

And the new year begins!
Welcome to everyone today.
Every year group today has been superb. Collective worships in church with parents, and in school for all years. Welcome assemblies and just normal lessons, the day has been a whirlwind for everyone.
Our new Year 7 have really impressed us today and our Year 11 students have started in a great way too, many enjoying the chatter around the English Lit results!
Tomorrow the weather changes.....

Y7, remember old clothes essential for the team building activities, and eye protection for the colour run.

2026 Results - Headteacher Statement

Everyone at Bishop Rawstorne is proud of our students following their summer 2026 GCSE examinations, and in particular of the resilience, determination and sheer effort they have shown throughout their five years with us. This is a cohort we have known well since Year 7, and their results today reflect exactly the journey we have supported them through.

None of this happens in isolation, and huge thanks go to our teaching staff, support staff and the Governing Body for their unwavering, unstinting commitment to driving forward the progress and attainment of our students, day after day. Of course, none of this would be possible without the parents and carers who have supported us over the last five years in shaping the academic and spiritual lives of this cohort, to whom we give our very best wishes for the future.

This is the final year group at Bishop Rawstorne for whom no Key Stage 2 SATs data exists, and as a result no Progress 8 or value-added scores can be produced this year. We therefore focus this statement on attainment, and are pleased to say there is much to celebrate within it.

In English and Maths, 24.1% of students achieved a Grade 7 or better in both subjects, 63.1% achieved a strong pass (9-5 grades) in both, and 82.4% achieved a standard pass in both (9-4 grades). Encouragingly, 95.2% of students achieved a Grade 4 or above in English, an improvement on last year's figure and a real credit to our English department and the students themselves.

77% of students achieved 5 or more Standard Passes (Grade 4 or above) including English and Maths, and 62% achieved 5 or more Strong Passes (Grade 5 or above) including English and Maths. This continues to demonstrate the breadth of achievement our students show across the whole curriculum.

Our EBacc figures are a real bright spot this year: 57.2% of students achieved a standard pass in the EBacc, our best figure in at least five years and up on last year's 56.3%, while 40.6% achieved a strong pass. Over two-thirds of our cohort were entered for the full EBacc, reflecting our continued commitment to a broad and balanced curriculum for all students.

Languages was a particular highlight this year. Of the students entered, 90.4% achieved a standard pass, our best figure in at least five years and up from 88.5% last year, and 76.8% achieved a strong pass, also an improvement on last year. This is a fantastic reflection of the hard work of our languages department and their students.

As the Class of 2026 moves on to the next stage of their journey, they do so having worked with real resilience and commitment throughout their time at Bishop Rawstorne. We are incredibly proud of all that they have achieved, and we wish them every success and happiness in whatever they choose to do next.

Update at 9.15pm
Still looking like a 10.30pm arrival. Please don't block the bus bit of the layby for collecting, thanks.

Day 6 (I think) this was yesterday. Mr Duckworth missed this SORRY!

Students enjoyed a magical day at Disney land Paris. We arrived at the park at 09:30 and enjoyed walt Disney studios in the morning on rides including Tower of Terror and The Avengers.
At 13:00 the students walked across to Disney land having lunch before an afternoon on the rides. After their evening meal the students watched a fantastically enthralling light show before returning to the hotel for a well earned sleep.

Currently the journey home is slow and looking at 10.30pm at school.

Last day of the year, and we say goodbye to Mr James in Music and Mrs Ball in Technology. Both off to new pastures to carry on shaping minds and helping young people develop talents and skills! You will be missed.
And then we say goodbye to Mr Williams who is leaving us for retirement. A cornerstone of the teaching staff, present at Bishop Rawstorne for over 30 years. Sad goodbyes and warm speeches this morning and yesterday morning led us into the summer break.

School's out for the summer & what a year it has been!! From the PE department to all students & parents/carers we thank you all for everything this academic year.

Today was special for the PE department as we said farewell to Mr Williams after 31 years of teaching at Bishop Rawstorne & 36 years teaching in total.

What he has given to school & the PE department is phenomenal & he will be missed. He has taught so many of you over the years; I'm sure you will all have many memories.

We wish you the very best for your retirement, thank you for everything!

Enjoy your summer & we will see you five weeks on Tuesday!!

Day 5 and the students travelled across France to Paris. A stop at Caen for the hypermarket, McDonald's and to celebrate a students birthday!
Then onto Paris for the River cruise up the Seine. The driver then amazingly drove around a few of the famous landmarks of Paris. We arrived just in time for kick off where the students can watch the game. Disneyland Paris tomorrow!

Krakow 2026
Busy day for Year 10 today. Students listened to a member of the Righteous Among Nations who shared their mother’s story.
This was followed by a very informative guided of the Jewish Quarters. The evening ended with a relaxing and scenic river cruise.
