Another successful year of results brought plenty of proud moments and celebrations for our Class of 2026.

Here are just a few highlights from our A Level and GCSE Results Days, as we celebrated the achievements, hard work and dedication of our St. Mary’s students and teachers.

‘Gratulacje’ to Jan Wolski, aged 15 from Mossley Hill, who achieved the highest possible grade 9 in his Polish GCSE which he took a year early at the age of 15.

St. Mary’s College Students Praised for GCSE Achievements! ✨

Students and staff at St. Mary’s College are celebrating another resounding summer of success in GCSE examinations.

Once again the school has recorded an excellent set of results, with almost half of all passes (43 per cent) at the highest 9-7 grades (up from 39 per cent in 2025), and more than a quarter of candidates (29 per cent) achieving seven or more passes at these top levels (up from 26 per cent last year).

More than half of students (57 per cent) obtained ten or more passes, with many achieving 11 or even 12 GCSEs, and 16 per cent of candidates recorded ten or more 9-7 grade passes each.

Staff at the school believe these outstanding results reflect the broad and balanced curriculum at St. Mary’s, and the fact that the college does not impose restrictions on the number of GCSE subjects that students can take.

Joint top of the class at the school this summer are 16-year-old Sophie Quint from Crosby and Joseph Olayinka-Lawal, also aged 16 from Huyton, who both recorded seven 9 grades and four 8 grades in their 11 GCSE passes.

Sophie commented: “I was quite nervous picking up my results but I am relieved now and pleased with how I did. I would like to thank my sister Anna who got her A Level results last week for always supporting me while we were both studying.

“I am looking forward to joining the Sixth Form at St. Mary’s and am going to study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Music at A Level.”

Joseph said: “I am extremely happy with my results. All of the hard work has paid off. I want to thank my subject teachers, my parents, aunt, uncle and grandad for all their support."

Well done to Solomiia Protsenko, one of our Ukrainian students, who achieved the highest possible grade 9 in her Russian GCSE; a fantastic achievement when you consider she completed it two years early at the age of just 13! ✨

Star performer - Samuel Miller, aged 16 from Formby, achieved eleven GCSEs at the top 9-7 grades, including five at the highest possible grade 9. ✨

Samuel said: “I’m really pleased with my results today. Big thanks to the teachers for all of their support. I’m looking forward to another two years at St. Mary’s.”

Star performer - Hazel Liu, aged 16 from Formby, took twelve GCSEs and achieved the highest possible grade 9 in six of them. This included a grade 9 in her GCSE Chinese, which she took two years ago at the age of 14. 🌟

Hazel said: “I’ve been up since 5am this morning with nerves, but I was really pleased with my results, particularly English Language and Literature because it isn’t my first language, so I struggle with it more than other subjects. So, I’m really happy with the result! I’d like to thank my parents, basically everyone in my family, my friends and all of my teachers for their support. Especially Mr Swan and Mr Lewis who helped me with my coursework-based assignments. I’m thinking of doing Art, Spanish and Psychology at A Level, but I’m still not sure yet.”
