🌲 Year 6 Forest Adventure! 🌲
This half term, Year 6 have been learning all about forests. As part of their topic, they visited Hamsterley Forest to explore and compare deciduous and coniferous forests.
During their visit, the children used classification keys to identify different tree species before creating their own classification keys. They also carried out a scientific investigation to discover which type of forest provides a home to the greatest variety of minibeasts.
It was a fantastic day of outdoor learning, exploration and hands-on science! 🍃

🌟 Year 4 Roman Adventure with Tiberius! 🌟

On Wednesday, Year 4 had an exciting visit from Tiberius the Roman Soldier! The children stepped back in time and discovered what life was like in the Roman army, learning about the training, equipment and daily routines of Roman soldiers.

We also re-enacted the Roman invasion of Britain, giving everyone the chance to experience history in action! The children worked together to dig for artefacts like real archaeologists and explored what these clues can tell us about the past.

To finish our Roman experience, we played traditional Roman board games and learned how people entertained themselves nearly 2,000 years ago.

🌟 Auckland Castle Visit 🌟

Over the past few days, our children have had a fantastic time visiting Auckland Castle as part of their learning. They took part in a variety of engaging workshops and activities, including learning about local history and legend, exploring the area's mining heritage, and getting creative with clay-making.

The children were brilliantly engaged throughout the visit and really enjoyed discovering more about the rich history of our local area. It was especially exciting to learn about Auckland Castle, as Auckland is one of our house team names!

A huge thank you to the staff The Auckland Project for making the experience so enjoyable and memorable. We hope to strengthen our links with all of our house team locations in the future through similar visits and learning opportunities.

🎻 Thank You! 🎻

A huge thank you to Durham Music Service for leading such an inspiring assembly today. Our children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learning more about the wonderful opportunities that music can offer.

We would also like to say a special thank you to our talented Hartside violinists, who proudly shared their skills and performed so beautifully for their friends and staff. We are incredibly proud of them for showcasing their hard work and dedication.

We are pleased to let families know that we currently have spaces available for violin lessons with Mrs Millar for children in Years 4, 5 and 6. Children who may be interested have brought home a postcard today with further information.

If your child would like to learn the violin or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch. 🎶✨
