Well done to FS Bedford who has just returned from his practice Gold Duke of Edinburgh expedition!

He spent four days and three nights walking, navigating, and camping alongside his expedition group in the beautiful Peak District. The group had to remain self-sufficient throughout, requiring careful planning and teamwork to ensure they had the right equipment and supplies for their trip. All successfully passed and it’s safe to say they had a great time!

This is a fantastic milestone in FS Bedford’s journey to completing his Gold DofE Award - congratulations! 🙌

Yesterday saw RAF Marham host its annual Families Day - an opportunity for the station to thank serving personnel and their families for all their support over the last year. Each year cadets from around Norfolk attend to support the running of this important event and make it an enjoyable day for all attendees.

This year, three cadets and one staff member went along and got stuck into a variety of taskings including providing crowd control at the flight line, helping out on the static displays, and welcoming guests onto the station.

There was also time set aside for looking around the static aircraft and watching the flying displays too. Lots of aircraft old and new were in attendance - ranging from Chipmunk to Jet Provost, and Typhoon to C-17 Globemaster! A German Tornado even came to visit - the first time a Tornado has been back on base since they were retired from RAF service in 2019. A great day all round!

Ready, set, ride! 🚵

Our cadets recently hit the trails to put their mountain biking skills to the test, tackling challenging terrain while developing their technical riding ability. From mastering bike control and coordination to choosing the best route through obstacles, every section demanded focus and communication.

A fantastic session packed with action and adventure—proving that every trail is an opportunity to learn and improve.

Aged 12 (and in Year 8) to 17 and interested in adventure? Contact us for more information about our next open evening!

Visit from a Home Town Hero!

Last week we were joined by FS Sven Blomquist for an informative and engaging evening learning about his career in the RAF. Sven grew up in Cromer and attended Cromer Academy where our Squadron is based, before joining the RAF aged 20 as a firefighter.

Sven provided an amazing overview of his career to date, working his way to becoming a Fire Subject Matter Expert in Aerodrome Operations and participating in sports such as skiing. Many of our cadets aspire to join the RAF and this gave them a great opportunity to ask questions and develop some insight into what serving life is like.

To round off the evening, Sven very kindly showed the cadets some of the equipment he works with, including breathing apparatus and thermal imaging cameras to help navigate smoky buildings.

Thank you Sven for such a brilliant evening for our cadets, it was great to welcome you to the Squadron!

Three of our cadets had a fantastic day at Lackford Lakes today, taking part in a range of paddlesports activities and developing their confidence on the water.

Throughout the day, cadets learned new skills, worked together as a team, and challenged themselves in a safe and supportive environment. It was great to see everyone getting involved and enjoying the outdoors.

A huge thank you to the instructors and staff who made the day possible. Experiences like these help our cadets develop teamwork, resilience and self-confidence while having plenty of fun along the way.

Last night our cadets spent an enjoyable and productive evening developing their marksmanship skills on the air rifle range. Through focus, discipline, and plenty of practice, they worked on improving their shooting technique and accuracy.

A special congratulations to three of our cadets who achieved the standard required to be awarded their Bronze Marksman Badge – a fantastic achievement and recognition of their hard work and dedication.

Well done to everyone who took part. Keep up the great work!

A great effort from our 6-A-Side Football team who travelled to RAF Honington yesterday for the annual Wing tournament! 👏

There was some excellent teamwork on display throughout our matches, helping us keep the ball in the opposition’s half for long periods. The cadets changed positions on the field over the course of the day, but particular mentions go to FS Bedford and Cdt Mayes for some impressive skills enabling them to keep control of the ball, with the latter getting in a well-scored goal in our first match. Credit also to Cdt Baxter who proved an effective goal keeper, making some important saves.

Well done to all the cadets that attended!

FIFTY YEARS OF FANTASTIC SERVICE! 🎉

This year's Volunteers' Week began with a great start - the award of a 1* Commendation to our longest serving staff member CI Tony Wade, who last year completed an incredible fifty years service with the Air Training Corps!

Presented to Tony at Wing Athletics by Wg Cdr Allan, Officer Commanding Norfolk & Suffolk Wing, it was a fitting moment to celebrate as Tony's first big achievement with the Squadron was us winning Gold in the Senior Boys Shot Putt at Wing Athletics under his training and guidance in his first season as Squadron Sports Officer. This was a significant success as we had not won any medals for ten years prior to this. The wins did not stop there, and with Tony's support the Squadron went on to build a reputation as a force to be reckoned with in all things sport.

Off the pitch, Tony has also led our cadets in both fieldcraft and adventure training. Over the years, he was usually found leading from the front on hikes, climbs, and abseiling trips, leaving staff members half his age trailing in his wake. His leadership and adventurous spirit is also directly responsible for the beginnings of some very successful careers in the Armed Forces, including in the RAF, British Army, and even within the SAS and SBS.

In 2017, Tony took charge of training our Wing Field team. This was an exciting challenge and required intensive training across ten disciplines. In probably one of his proudest moments, in 2019 Tony was delighted when, against the odds, the Squadron won the event for the very first time.

A true inspiration to our cadets, Tony's approach is one of encouragement and showing them they can do it, resulting in life-enhancing experiences for those lucky enough to have met and worked with him. We are thrilled to see his timeless dedication to the Squadron and our young people recognised through the award of this commendation. Well done Tony! 👏
