A few weeks ago, our Year 4 and Reception children came together for a fantastic Forest School session filled with teamwork, creativity and outdoor learning.
The children enjoyed a range of exciting activities, including whittling sticks to create their own pencils, map drawing using their handmade pencil, matchbox collecting and den and boat building. Throughout the session, the older and younger pupils worked brilliantly together, supporting one another as they developed new skills and explored the natural environment.
It was a wonderful experience that encouraged collaboration, problem-solving and a love of the outdoors. Well done to all the children for making it such a memorable afternoon!

Year 5 Outdoor Art Gallery Trail 🎨🌿
Our creative Year 5 children have transformed part of a public footpath in Merriott into a wonderful outdoor art gallery!
Take a stroll through the fields and discover their tiny homes and pompom sprites, bringing a splash of colour and imagination to the countryside.
Use What3Words to find the start of the trail: ///shredding.pads.beamed
Why not explore the trail and see if you can spot all the creations?

Today we had a visit from Adam Dance. He talked through his reasons for becoming an MP, explained some interesting parts of procedures in Parliament and talked to us about some of the important issues he has helped with. The children had the opportunity to ask him some questions and were encouraged to write to him should they want to find out more. A wonderful visit and certainly inspiring.

Our trip to Rockley Park in Poole is always a highlight of Year 5 and this year was no different! The children had an amazing time taking part in four exciting water-based activities - the mega SUP was a firm favourite! All of them fully embraced challenging themselves and making wonderful memories together.
It was fantastic to see the children working so well together, encouraging each another and demonstrating showing excellent teamwork throughout the day. They represented our school brilliantly.
It was a pleasure to see so many smiling faces and happy children enjoying new experiences. Well done, Year 5!

Yesterday, pupils from Sycamore Class and Year 6 at Merriott School took part in a local inter-school cricket tournament at Chard Cricket Club, hosted by SASP. Despite the damp weather, the children had a great time playing and supporting one another. It was also the first time they wore our new team tops – well done to everyone who took part!
Yesterday, a group of children from Sycamore Class had the exciting opportunity to join Year 6 pupils from Merriott School and Perrott Hill School to take part in a mock trial.
The trial focused on the issue of fly tipping, with Haselbury and Merriott pupils taking on the roles of the defendant and their legal team. This provided the children with a valuable, real-life insight into how the justice system works and allowed them to develop their speaking, listening and reasoning skills in a practical context.
We are incredibly proud of all the children who took part. They approached the experience with enthusiasm and confidence, and performed their roles brilliantly throughout the trial. Their efforts, teamwork and engagement were a credit to the school.

On Wednesday evening, Skye and Charlie took part in the Ilminster Literary Festival Poetry Recital Competition. Both children spoke beautifully, using clear articulation and wonderful expression to deliver their chosen poems, we were so proud of their confidence and courage. Charlie went on to win his overall category too. Amazing job to both children - they truly are Merriott Stars!
We have been donated some more wonderful books through our book donation scheme in partnership with The Green Dragon Book shop in Crewkerne. Many thanks to the residents of Merriott who have been most generous - we are really loving the new texts on our shelves and the children are delighted! Thank you!
