Perrott Hill Prep School

Earlier this week, before the heatwave set in, Year 3 took their Geography lesson around the school campus to investigate heat in our environment ☀️🌡️

Led by Mr Coverdale, the children explored different areas of the school, taking accurate temperature measurements, recording their findings and discussing how climate influences the way we live and adapt.

One particularly useful area of discussion was the importance of shade — considering how trees, buildings and outdoor spaces can help us stay cool and how environments may need to adapt as temperatures rise.

We are fortunate to have plenty of cool and shaded areas around the school and, during this exceptionally hot weather, staff and children have been taking extra precautions, looking out for one another and adapting the school day where needed to stay safe and comfortable.

The Perrott Hill Plodders’ Sixes Tournment brought together familiar faces for a brilliant day of cricket. It was especially wonderful to see such a strong turnout of OPHs back at school and to welcome John Grundy, Plodders’ Club President, to enjoy the day too.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who supported the raffle, the event also raised over £400 for North Perrott Village Hall - a fantastic result and a lovely way to give something back.

It was wonderful as ever to welcome Rev George Beverley to school this morning for assembly. He encouraged children to make the most of the last weeks of term and above all else to stay humble and kind.

Year 2 spent time with Year 3 this week taking part in team-building activities ahead of their move into Prep in September 💚

Transition is such an exciting milestone and Year 3 were delighted to act as mentors, offering encouragement, showing kindness and helping Year 2 look forward to everything that lies ahead.

One of the lovely things about being a smaller school is the opportunity for children of different ages to know, encourage and support one another - mornings like this are a wonderful example of that in action.

What a night ⛺☀️

Our Year 5 and 6 Boarding Activity Night brought the Big Camp Out to Front Field - and honestly, we think there can’t be many better places to pitch a tent.

With beautiful summer weather and our fantastic far reaching views, the children enjoyed an evening of volleyball, Slip and Slide, endless games of 40/40 and a brilliant BBQ with all the trimmings cooked onsite by our chefs.

The children had the most wonderful evening with their friends, making the best memories - we know they’ll be talking about this one for a while 💚

Magic is beginning to build in the woods… ✨🌿

Our Year 8s have been hard at work rehearsing for their final Perrott Hill production: The Tempest, set in the beautiful surroundings of our Forest School.

We were also delighted to welcome James Purefoy into school today to support Miss Emilie and spend time coaching the cast as they bring Shakespeare’s stormy world to life.

We can’t wait to see it all come together for what promises to be a very special final production for this year’s leavers.

There can’t be many better ways to start a summer afternoon than listening to a story together, and the children were completely absorbed.

A huge thank you to James Purefoy for taking to the chair once again and treating us to another wonderfully atmospheric reading - we loved every minute 🧡💚

What a handsome bunch! It was shiny shoes and lovely smiles all round for our school and class photographs and now comes the hard part - waiting to see the finished photos!

Year 7 stepped back to Roman times this week with a fascinating Classics trip to the Dorset Museum 🏺

They handled genuine Roman artefacts, explored the museum’s impressive Roman gallery and visited the remarkably well-preserved Roman Town House in the heart of ancient Durnovaria (modern-day Dorchester).

All in all, it was a wonderful opportunity to bring their classroom learning to life.
