πŸ–οΈπŸ¦ Handprints, Giggles & Safari Animals! πŸ¦’πŸ˜

Who doesn’t love a bit of handprint painting?! And even better when those little handprints magically turn into your favourite safari animals! πŸ₯°πŸ–οΈπŸΎ

This week, the children have been creating these adorable safari animals by first choosing their favourite animal and their favourite colour before getting straight to work with the paint! 🎨🌈

For some of our little ones, the painting was VERY tickly! πŸ˜‚πŸ–οΈ There were lots of giggles, smiles and wriggly fingers as we carefully painted their hands.

But then came the best bit…

✨ The big reveal! ✨

As their little hands were pressed onto the card and lifted away, there were lots of β€œWOW!” moments as they saw their handprint transform into their chosen safari animal. πŸ¦πŸ’πŸ¦’

The excitement continued as they proudly showed off their creations, especially when it was time to take them home and show Mummy and Daddy what they had made. πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ

A simple activity, but so many lovely experiences packed into one little handprint β€” making choices, exploring colour and texture, developing fine motor skills and most importantly, having fun and creating something they could be proud of. πŸŽ¨πŸ–οΈπŸ’•

And just look at those little hands! πŸ₯°

🐊🌿 Mission: Save the Safari Animals! πŸ¦πŸ¦’

Well, here’s the verdict on whether anyone even noticed my creative flare in the playroom… 🀭

Of course they did! And they absolutely LOVED their mission to rescue all the safari animals stranded on the other side of the crocodile-infested river! πŸŠπŸ¦πŸ¦’πŸ˜

The children put their critical thinking caps on and quickly got to work coming up with a plan. They scanned the room, looking carefully at all the different resources they could use to get across the river.

After lots of discussion, they made their final decision…

The balance beams! πŸ‘

Now, this was a slightly risky option because it meant putting their feet very close to the crocodile-infested waters to build their bridge! 🐊🫣

Thankfully, our little lambs were both fearful AND speedy, which meant nobody lost a toe today! πŸ€£πŸ™Œ

Once the bridge was finally built, the real mission began…

The children carefully tiptoed across the bridge, balancing their way to the other side before rescuing the animals two by two and bringing them safely back across the river. πŸ¦’πŸ˜β€οΈ

There were A LOT of animals to save, so this wasn't a one-person job!

They had to work together, take turns, encourage one another and think carefully about how to cross safely. I particularly loved hearing them encourage each other to put their arms out to help with their balance. πŸ₯Ή

What looked like a simple safari rescue game actually involved SO much learning:

🌿 Problem-solving
🧠 Critical thinking
🀝 Teamwork
βš–οΈ Balance & coordination
πŸ’¬ Communication
πŸ”„ Turn-taking
❀️ Encouraging others
🐾 Imaginative play

And most importantly… they had SO much fun doing it! πŸ₯°

Sometimes you just need a few safari animals, a pretend crocodile river and a little imagination to create a whole world of learning. 🌍🐊🦁

Mission accomplished β€” every safari animal made it safely home! πŸŽ‰πŸ™Œ

Can't wait for tomorrow's challenge with the little ones πŸ’¦πŸŠπŸ’¦πŸ˜¬

So I've spent some time this evening creating this sign to really make the activity pop. My husband walks in and suggests that the children won't notice it tomorrow. I on the other hand disagree and think it's the first thing they will notice 🀣🀣🀣

What do you all think?

Do you spend time in your own time creating little displays for the children or is it just me?

I think I do these things more for myself and possibly a little bit of relaxing therapy at the end of a busy day πŸ™ˆ I know the children would absolutely love coming in with nothing set up and free play all day everyday. And there isn't anything wrong with that, I just can't help myself but do more work 🀣 But I get where my husband is coming from because they probably will just be as excited if it wasn't there.

Anyway I'm in bed now grabbing an early night but would love to hear your thoughts πŸ€”

πŸ’πŸ’š Meet Speedy, the newest member of our Little Lambs family! πŸ’šπŸ’

Over the last few weeks, we’ve had so much fun getting to know our new tortoise, Speedy! 🐒πŸ₯°

The children have been learning all about how to care for him, including how to hold him gently and correctly, what he likes to eat and how we can help him feel safe and happy. πŸŒΏπŸ’š

We’ve already discovered a few things about our little friend…

❀️ Speedy LOVES red! He often comes out to investigate and enjoys pushing his little red ball around his enclosure. ⚽🐒

🌱 He also loves the weeds growing in our local field, which means regular walks to collect some fresh treats for him are definitely a must! πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸŒΏ

And as for the name Speedy… well, that one really does speak for itself! πŸ€£πŸ’πŸ’¨

The children have had so much fun watching him zoom across his pen and observing all his little movements and behaviours. There’s something so special about having a real-life animal to care for and learn from every day. ❀️

From gentle handling and responsibility to observing, questioning and discovering β€” Speedy is already teaching us so much! 🐒🌿✨

Welcome to the Little Lambs family, Speedy!

Just a little shout out to The Tortoise Den for all their knowledge and help when deciding what to go for and what was needed πŸ™Œ Highly recommend

🦁🌿 A Little Adventure to Chester Zoo – Heart of Africa! πŸŒΏπŸ¦’

We had such a wonderful day exploring Chester Zoo, with a special focus on the Heart of Africa section. πŸ˜πŸ¦πŸ¦’

The children were fascinated by the incredible animals and loved taking their time to watch, listen and spot all the different creatures around us. There was so much excitement as we discovered the African wildlife and talked about where the animals live, what they eat and how they move. 🌍🐾

We particularly enjoyed taking in the sights and sounds of the African habitats and seeing the animals behaving in their own natural ways. It was lovely to watch the children becoming curious, asking questions and sharing their observations with each other. ❀️

Of course, a trip to the zoo isn't just about seeing the animals β€” it's about experiencing, wondering and learning together. 🌿

From tiny observations to big conversations, there were learning opportunities around every corner! We talked about habitats, animal care, food chains, similarities and differences between animals and the importance of protecting wildlife. 🐾🌍

And, as always at Little Lambs, the day was full of child-led exploration, curiosity and plenty of fresh air and adventure! πŸ’š

A beautiful day of learning beyond our four walls. πŸ¦’πŸ˜πŸŒΏ

🌿🐠 Our Child-Led Ofsted Inspection Day! 🐠🌿

And this was our child-led Ofsted inspection day β€” a day full of play, exploration, learning… and a very special little birthday celebration! πŸŽ‚πŸ₯³

One of our Little Lambs turned 3, and what better day to enjoy a little slice of birthday cake than on Ofsted inspection day?! πŸ€πŸ€—πŸ™ŒπŸŽ‚

It was such a lovely day watching the children become completely immersed in all the different areas of our setting. They were able to follow their own interests, make their own choices and move freely between activities β€” and it was wonderful to see just how engaged they were. ❀️

However… it rained! πŸŒ§οΈπŸ˜‚

After a whole week of beautiful sunshine, I nearly panicked when I realised nobody had coats! I mean, who needs coats during a heatwave?! πŸ™ˆ

Thankfully, I remembered our thin yellow waterproof jackets hanging up at the back door, so we certainly weren't going to let a little rain stop us! πŸ’›πŸŒ§οΈ

So out we went!

It was actually rather refreshing β€” and secretly quite a relief not to have to worry about our suncream and hydration station every 10 minutes! πŸ˜‚β˜€οΈπŸ’¦

The children embraced the change in weather and continued their play and exploration outdoors, while our inspector sensibly stayed lovely and dry indoors! πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

And to finish off our special day, we got creative with some shell and fish artwork for the children to take home. 🐚🐟🎨

A busy, messy, joyful and completely child-led day β€” and a lovely reminder that some of the best learning happens when we simply follow the children’s interests and let the day unfold. ❀️

Oh… and of course, birthday cake definitely counts as part of the curriculum on Ofsted day! πŸ€πŸŽ‚πŸ™Œ

🌊🐠 Our Recycled Coral Reef Adventure! πŸ¦€πŸ™

I don't know if you remember our recycled coral reef that was lovingly created by so many little Little Lambs hands a few weeks ago… well, it has been a huge hit! πŸ’™

The children have loved returning to it again and again, choosing their favourite fish, crabs, sharks and octopuses and creating their own underwater adventures. πŸŸπŸ¦ˆπŸ™

There was so much imaginative play happening as they explored the coral reef, finding little hiding places for their sea creatures to rest, hide and even pounce on their prey! πŸ¦€

The octopuses carefully had each te****le placed into the tubes, the sharks were zoomed around the surface of the reef, while the crabs were carefully positioned on the shelves to rest. πŸ™πŸ¦ˆπŸ¦€

It was also lovely to see a resource that was noticed and praised during our Ofsted inspection, being enjoyed in so many different ways. It really shows that you don't need expensive, fancy resources to create meaningful learning opportunities. ❀️

Our little recycled reef has encouraged imagination, storytelling, problem-solving, fine motor skills, language development and lots of child-led play β€” all from something created together from recycled materials! β™»οΈπŸŒŠ

A little reef made by little hands… providing BIG underwater adventures! 🐠✨

🌊🫧 From the ocean to our own little ocean adventure! 🐠

After our wonderful trip to the Aquarium, the children couldn’t wait to continue their ocean exploration back at Little Lambs! πŸ’™

We set up a fizzy ocean-inspired tuff tray and added lots of squeezy pipettes, cups and bicarbonate of soda to encourage the children to create their own fizzy, bubbly reactions. 🫧🌊

There was so much excitement as they experimented with squeezing, pouring and mixing, watching closely as their creations fizzed and bubbled! They were fascinated by the cause and effect and kept coming back to the tray throughout the day to continue their experiments.

It was wonderful to see such sustained engagement and curiosity from such a simple, hands-on experience. 🌿

Learning through play, following their interests and giving them the freedom to explore, experiment and discover. πŸ’™

Well... what can I say? OFSTED have left the building! πŸ’š

On my last working day before a week off, I honestly couldn't have asked for a better way to finish.

Today, more than anything, I am so grateful to God. He is the One I put my trust in, and He gave me such a deep sense of peace, knowing that He had already gone before me and knew every detail of the day. It truly felt like the answer to so many prayers from our friends and family, so thank you to every single one of you who prayed, encouraged us, and supported us. We are incredibly thankful. πŸ™

To top it all off, Cheryl and I were absolutely spoilt by our wonderful families. From the kind words and amazing feedback to the beautiful flowers and delicious chocolates, we felt so appreciated and encouraged. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 🌸🍫❀️

People often ask what it's like when an inspection is over. Usually, you breathe a sigh of relief and move on... but today has been one of those rare, very special days that I'd happily relive all over again. I'm still a little bit in shock, if I'm honest!

Now it's time to switch off for a week, spend some precious time with my own family, and thank the Lord for the privilege of continuing to do a job that we genuinely love. It is such a blessing to care for your little ones while also being able to be present with our own precious family. πŸ₯°

"The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy." – Psalm 126:3 πŸ’š

Forever grateful to the Lord.

P.s. I will be uploading a few more posts from our Ocean themed week as we haven't had chance to share some activities πŸ₯°
