Dear Parents,

We wanted to let you know that we will be closed for the week commencing Monday 19th October 2026.

Sadly, we have recently lost our dad, and we have decided to take some time away together as a family for a holiday and to spend some much-needed time with one another. ❤️

We appreciate that this may cause some inconvenience and are very grateful for your understanding and support during what is a difficult time for us.

For children receiving funded hours, any funded hours that would normally have been used during our closure week can be made up and used the following week during the half term. This means that your funded hours will not be lost.

We will be back as normal the following week and look forward to seeing everyone then.

Thank you for your kindness, understanding and continued support. It really does mean a lot to us.

💜✨ What a fantastic day we had at our School's Out for Summer Party! ✨💜

A huge thank you to all of our amazing children for making it such a special day. 🥰

We had so much fun bouncing, sliding, playing games, playing in the ball pool, enjoying delicious hot dogs and burgers and ice pops, getting glitter tattoos, and having our hair braided with lots of sparkle! 🎢✨🍔🍦⚽

Seeing so many smiling faces, hearing the laughter, and watching everyone make wonderful memories together made it all worthwhile. 💜

We hope you all had as much fun as we did! Thank you for being part of another memorable day at Little Gems Childminders.

Join us at Little Gems Childminders for a fun-filled day to celebrate the end of the school year! 🥳

⏰ Please note: All party activities will take place between 9:00am and 3:00pm, however Little Gems Childminders will remain open our normal hours of 7:30am – 5:30pm for families who require our usual childcare.

💜 Normal fees apply. Children attending on their usual contracted funded day can use their funded hours as normal. Any additional bookings for this event outside of a child's contracted funded session will be charged at our usual rates.

Heatwave Update 🌞🌞

Following guidance from the local authority regarding the current heatwave, we wanted to reassure you that we will remain open as normal and have measures in place to keep children safe and comfortable.

Our setting is kept cool with ceiling fans and an air conditioning unit if needed, and we will be closely monitoring indoor temperatures throughout the day.

To minimise exposure to the hottest part of the day, we will be limiting our time outdoors and making use of shaded areas where appropriate. We will also encourage regular drinks and ensure children stay well hydrated.

Please can all children come with:
A named sun hat
Sun cream (named and suitable for your child)

If your child arrives without sun cream applied, we will apply it before any outdoor play in accordance with our usual procedures.

We understand that some families may be concerned about travelling in the heat. If you decide to keep your child at home during the heatwave, we completely understand and no fees will be charged for any sessions cancelled due to the extreme temperatures.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Dear Parents/Carers,

We would like to inform you that our opening hours will be changing.

Our new standard opening times will be:
7:30am – 5:30pm

We will still continue to offer our unsociable hour in the mornings from:
6:30am – 7:30am

Please note that our closing time will now be 5:30pm instead of 6:00pm.

We appreciate your understanding and continued support. If you have any questions, please feel free to speak to us.

🐞 Yesterday’s bug hunt fun 🐜

Yesterday we explored our bug-themed tuff tray, searching through the soil to discover different insects and mini beasts 🪱🕷️

The children used magnifying glasses and tweezers to investigate the bugs while learning about different insects and their habitats 🌿✨

We looked at the names and pictures of the insects, talked about what they looked like and matched them to the bugs we could find 🐛🐞

Supporting:
✨ Understanding the World – exploring insects, habitats and the natural environment
✨ Communication and Language – introducing new vocabulary and encouraging discussions about the bugs we found
✨ Literacy – recognising insect names and matching pictures to objects
✨ Physical Development – strengthening fine motor skills through digging, picking up insects and using tools
✨ Mathematics – counting insects and comparing sizes and quantities
✨ Personal, Social and Emotional Development – building confidence, curiosity and independent exploration

🌊 Ocean sensory play 🌊

Today we are exploring our ocean-themed tuff tray, discovering different sea animals and Arctic creatures through sensory and imaginative play 🐢🦀🐧

The children are using their senses to explore different textures including flour, soft cotton wool, sponges, fabric and small world resources while creating their own underwater adventures ✨

We are making marks and drawing in the flour using our fingers, encouraging early mark making and creativity 😊

We are also talking about the different animals we can see, learning their names and discussing where they live 🐋❄️

Supporting:
✨ Understanding the World – learning about sea life, habitats and different environments
✨ Communication and Language – introducing new vocabulary and encouraging conversations about the animals and textures
✨ Expressive Arts and Design – imaginative play, creativity and storytelling through small world exploration
✨ Physical Development – developing fine motor skills and hand control through mark making and sensory exploration
✨ Literacy – early mark making and drawing shapes/patterns in the flour

🌈 Colour sorting fun 🌈

Today we explored colours and animals using our sorting activity 🐻🐸

The children used tweezers to pick up the animals and match them to the correct coloured bowls, helping to develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and concentration ✨

Supporting:
✨ Physical Development – strengthening hand muscles and developing control and coordination through using the tweezers
✨ Mathematics – recognising and matching colours, sorting objects and beginning to count and compare quantities
✨ Communication and Language – naming colours and animals, following instructions and talking about what they are doing
✨ Understanding the World – exploring different animals and learning about similarities and differences
✨ Personal, Social and Emotional Development – building confidence, perseverance and independence during play

🚗 Transport spotting ✈️

This morning we went out in the village spotting different types of transport. We spotted lots of cars, a bus, a train, a lorry, a van, a digger and even an aeroplane 🚂🚜✈️

We also counted how many cars we could see, adding a fun maths element to our walk 🔢

Our original plan was to visit the library, but as it was closed, we adapted our plans and enjoyed exploring our surroundings instead 🌿

✨ Understanding the World – exploring the local environment and recognising different types of transport
✨ Communication and Language – naming vehicles and talking about what we saw
✨ Mathematics – counting and recognising numbers during our walk
✨ Physical Development – walking, moving safely and building stamina outdoors
