When children are trusted to explore challenge, incredible learning happens.

Climbing, balancing, building and navigating their own pathways develops so much more than physical strength. Children are judging distance, testing their capabilities, solving problems, assessing risk and adapting their movements — all through play.

We provide the environment. They decide what’s possible. 🌿

Is anyone else missing those crisp mornings when Jack Frost has worked his magic?

As much as we love every season in our nursery garden, there’s something rather special about winter. Puddle suits and woolly hats on, rosy cheeks, and a morning’s work and play in the fresh air, before heading back into the warmth of The Nest for a hot, hearty lunch lovingly prepared by Carolyn. We’re looking forward to welcoming winter.

Leadership looks different at every age. It’s a skill we notice in our children, nurture and help to grow which is why you won’t hear us use the word bossy!

We create opportunities for every child to experience leading: starting small, building confidence and gradually taking on more.

Anyone who knows our nursery well will know how our mealtimes have evolved as we continually tweak what we do and think about what more children can learn. We believe shared mealtimes should be a calm coming together a time to talk, show care, serve others and experience the pride of taking the lead. 💚💚💚

The skills we teach indoors don’t stop at the door.
They continue outdoors, in the garden and at Forest School just with a little more mud!

With our new art studio nearly ready to open, we can’t wait to see more of our budding artists enjoying even more opportunities to learn new skills, experiment, create and express their ideas and, perhaps most importantly, to notice and think about the world around them through the lens of art.

As the nights begin to draw in a little earlier, it reminds us that one of our favourite Preschool evening events is getting closer… where we learn about the tradition of St Martin’s Day in Germany.

Experiences matter

Children bring their experiences into their play. What they see, hear and do shapes what they build, create, talk about and imagine.

Here, a group of children created a boat together. Knowing the experiences behind their ideas helps practitioners build on what children already know, introducing new knowledge and vocabulary such as rudder, buoy, anchor, sail, harbour, coastline, shore and Atlantic Ocean.

This is curriculum in action: connecting new learning to what children already know and understand.

Because experiences matter. They give children knowledge to draw upon and play gives them the opportunity to explore it, connect it and make it their own
