🌟 Student Spotlight Friday – From Kumon Student to the Next Chapter 🌟

Today we’re celebrating three amazing young women who began as Kumon students and later became class assistants in our centres. 💙

🎓 Kiana
After completing her A Levels, Kiana is heading to Oxford University to study Law. An incredible achievement — we are so proud and wish her every success in this exciting new chapter!

📚 Jiya
Congratulations to Jiya on her GCSE results! She is now starting A Levels in History and Business.

🌟 Mahi
A huge well done to Mahi on her GCSEs! She will be studying Maths, Business and Criminology for A Levels.

What makes this even more special is that all three started their journey with us as Kumon students before becoming class assistants, supporting younger learners along the way. ❤️

Watching our students grow into confident young adults with bright futures is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

GCSE Results Day | The story behind Kumon

Did you know that Kumon began with one father wanting to help his son? 💙

In 1954, Toru Kumon was a high school maths teacher when his wife became concerned about their son Takeshi’s maths test results. Toru decided to create his own maths worksheets for Takeshi, focusing on building his calculation skills and allowing him to study independently, little by little, every day.

Toru believed that children could develop their abilities by learning independently and progressing at a level appropriate for them.

The results were remarkable. Takeshi studied the materials his father created for around 30 minutes each day and, by just a few months into sixth grade, had reached differential and integral calculus.

Those original handwritten worksheets became the prototype for today’s Kumon worksheets. What started as one father’s way of helping his son eventually became a method that has helped millions of students around the world.

Behind the Scenes at Kumon 📚✨ Summer may be here, but learning doesn’t stop at the Kumon Centre! ☀️📚 Take a little look behind the scenes at our Crawley Tilgate Centre today. One of the keys to making progress with Kumon is consistency. Keeping up a regular study routine throughout the summer helps students maintain the skills they’ve worked so hard to develop and keeps that learning momentum going. 🌟 Student Spotlight – Brij

This year marks an incredible 10 years of Brij’s Kumon journey! 💙 He started Kumon at just 5 years old and is now preparing to start Year 11.

Brij has been a big part of my Kumon journey and it has been a privilege to watch him progress over the years. His commitment to studying every day and his determination to keep moving forward have helped him reach the amazing achievement of now studying three years ahead of his school year.

Brij’s progress has also been a benchmark I have used with other students to demonstrate the importance of finding their just-right starting point. His journey is a wonderful example of how, with the right level of challenge and consistent daily study, children can build their skills and progress to work far beyond their school year.

🏆 10 years of commitment. 3 years ahead. What an achievement!

I am incredibly proud of you, Brij, and so grateful to have been part of your journey. I can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings! 🌟💙

Whatever your results, take a moment to recognise the hard work, perseverance and dedication that brought you to this point. Your results are an important milestone, but they are not a measure of your potential or the person you can become.

This is something that sits at the heart of Toru Kumon’s philosophy. He believed that children should develop the ability to learn independently, discover their own potential and become confident in tackling new challenges for themselves.

At Kumon, we see learning as much more than achieving a particular grade. It’s about developing the confidence, independence, perseverance and self-learning skills that can support students throughout their education and into adult life.

Sometimes reaching our goals means stretching a little further than we thought we could.

Just like reaching for that apple, children are constantly learning, growing and discovering what they are capable of. 🍎

At Kumon, we encourage children to take small, consistent steps, building their skills and confidence along the way. Every worksheet completed, every challenge overcome and every new skill mastered brings them one step closer to reaching their full potential.

🌟 Shasminy’s Kumon Journey

Shasminy began her Kumon journey while she was in Reception, and it has been a privilege to watch her grow into the confident, hardworking and independent young lady she is today.

From the very beginning, Shasminy has shown an exceptional commitment to her learning. She studies every day with determination and approaches each new topic with a positive attitude, always striving to achieve the very best results. Her perseverance and dedication have enabled her to make outstanding progress throughout her Kumon journey. As she prepares to start Year 7 in September, Shasminy leaves primary school with an excellent academic foundation, outstanding study skills and the confidence to embrace the exciting challenges ahead. I have no doubt that she will continue to achieve amazing things throughout secondary school and beyond.
