A caring presence when you can’t be there.

Do you worry about an elderly parent, grandparent, loved one — or perhaps you yourself could benefit from a little extra support?

I understand first-hand how difficult it can be trying to balance your own busy, hectic life while still worrying about your loved ones and wondering if they are okay when they are on their own.

Sometimes it’s not just our family members who need a helping hand. Life can become busy, overwhelming, or challenging, and having someone reliable, friendly, and trustworthy there can make all the difference.

When family live far away, or life simply gets too busy, it can be reassuring to know there is someone local who cares and can be there when you can’t.

I have worked within the local village community for many years and am a recognised, familiar face around the village. Over this time, I have built trusted relationships and gained an understanding of the people and community I support.

As Heaven Scent is run solely by me, you’ll always have the reassurance of seeing the same familiar face — never a different person every visit.

Between work, raising families, and living miles away, many of us carry the same worry:

Life gets busy. Work, children, errands, distance… and before we know it, days or even weeks pass by. Meanwhile, many parents and older loved ones spend long hours alone.

I offer friendly companionship and a warm chat over a cup of tea for elderly parents who may appreciate a little company during the day. Whether it’s conversation, sharing stories, playing cards, or simply enjoying a peaceful afternoon together, sometimes small moments make the biggest difference.

Loneliness in older adults is real — but so is their sense of humour, their stories, and their ability to absolutely destroy you at board games.

A quick call, a cup of tea, or even listening (again) to that story about “back in 1972…” can make a bigger difference than you think.

Side effects may include:
– Unexpected laughter
– Questioning how they survived without Google Maps
– Being sent home with snacks you didn’t ask for

Check in on someone older today. Worst case? You hear a story twice.
Best case? You make someone feel less alone.

And maybe learn how to fix something without YouTube.

A week working with the elderly is never the same, but it’s always rewarding. From sharing a morning cup of tea and a chat, to helping with shopping, meals, and small tasks around the home, every visit is about making someone’s day a little easier and brighter. Some days are filled with laughter and wonderful stories from years gone by, and other days it’s simply about being there and offering a listening ear. Supporting older people to stay comfortable, independent, and happy in their own homes is truly a privilege, and it’s the small moments of kindness and connection that make the work so special.

Supporting an older person at home doesn’t just help them — it also provides valuable reassurance and a well-deserved break for their family. Caring for a loved one can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be demanding. By offering reliable, compassionate support with daily tasks, companionship, and general help around the home, families can take time to rest, focus on their own responsibilities, and simply enjoy quality time with their loved one without the pressure of doing everything themselves. Knowing someone caring and trustworthy is there can bring real peace of mind

I am a local lady who has a small business called Heaven Scent and I work alongside the elderly and their families in Crawley and surrounding areas

After working for large charity organisation it became so apparent that the demand for help for the elderly is not available easily.

On the flip side of this I decided to change things in my community and that’s when I opened up my business in the area I am so happy to tell you that it’s so successful and has been running for a good few years.

I offer a bespoke and totally personal
service to my clients ranging from companionship , leisure trips , small
meal preparation, domestic duties, assistance to appointments , shopping together or on their behalf and much more depending on my clients requests , wishes and needs.

I also offer relative sitting and a check in service for families that want a break or a holiday or busy working or just want to feel that they would like to just have a night at home and go home straight after work , let me take that worry from you, let me pick up the milk or get the prescription or the food shop .or have a chat and a cup of tea with your loved one

The beauty of Heaven Scent is that it’s a private service meaning I can spend time with my clients for one or two hour slots weekly or fortnightly and can mould the package to exactly what’s required by each individual and the only face they will see is mine , there will not be different people coming and going, which can cause anxiety and un certainty in the older generation.

Another year has passed helping the elderly community of Crawley and surrounding areas , running my small local business Heaven Scent

At Christmas time it becomes even more obvious that loneliness is a huge problem , lack of friends and family, isolation and housebound clients.

I know that during 2022 and all the previous years of working in the community I bring companionship , help around the home, transport to appointments , leisure trips out, keeping homes clean and so much more and have bought a smile to many faces amd helped out taking the pressure away from
families who are busy trying to juggle their own life whilst also trying to look after elderly family

When I first opened my small business obviously I wanted to give it a name , Heaven Scent seemed the perfect name , because if I had £1 for all the times I have been called an Angel , or you are truly Heaven Scent I could buy a castle !
