🍂🌳 Welcoming Autumn in the Woods 🌳🍂

What better place to welcome the autumn equinox than in the beautiful woodland Dorset House School

We began our Forest School session by revisiting our fire rules and woodland boundaries, before heading off on an autumn nature hunt. 🍁 The children discovered conkers, pinecones and colourful autumn leaves, noticing the first signs of the changing season.

There was plenty of time for child-led exploration too, with muddy creations in the mud kitchen and beautiful autumn wreaths made using natural materials collected from the woodland. 🌿🍂

We finished our session together with reflection, sharing what we had discovered and enjoyed.

The autumn equinox is a wonderful reminder to slow down, notice the changes happening around us and experience the seasons first-hand, exactly what Forest School is all about. 🌳

🎃🌳 HALLOWEEN FOREST SCHOOL HOLIDAY CLUBS 🌳🎃

This October Half Term, swap the screens for spooky woodland adventures🍂👻

Join us for a fun-filled Halloween Forest School experience packed with outdoor adventure, creativity and seasonal fun.

🔥 Gather around the fire for hot chocolate, campfire cooking and spooky stories, get creative with Halloween-themed woodcraft and crafts 🎃, enjoy woodland games and challenges, build dens, explore the forest and, of course, join in with some Halloween dressing-up fun! 👻🌳

Children are welcome to come dressed up , just make sure costumes are suitable for a day of outdoor exploring!

🌳 We’ve had a fantastic few weeks at 🌳

It has been wonderful to see how much the children have achieved during our Forest School Holiday Club. Through their Forest Skills Passports, they have been building on their skills, practising them again and again, growing in confidence and working towards mastering new techniques.

From raft building and den building to safely using tools, knot tying and developing their fire-lighting skills, the children have shown fantastic determination, resilience and independence. 🔥🪵🌿

A huge part of Forest School is having the opportunity to revisit skills, learn through experience and take supported risks and we have been so proud to see the children recognise just how much they are capable of achieving.

What a wonderful setting has been for developing these skills and creating some fantastic outdoor experiences.

We’re already looking forward to our next Forest School Holiday Club this autumn! 🍂 Keep an eye out for the dates.

🫐 Blackberry Picking & Natural Painting 🫐

We spent the morning carefully picking blackberries Dorset House Schoolfrom around the woodland, ready to create our very own natural paint for our tote bags.

But rather than simply giving the children some blackberry paint, they were involved in every stage of the process. We collected the berries, washed them, explored their colour and texture and tasted thrmof couse , and then used a pestle and mortar to crush them and release the beautiful natural juices. 🎨

At Forest School, we take our time. There is no rush to get to the finished product. The learning happens along the way ,through exploring, questioning, experimenting, problem-solving and discovering how the natural materials around us can be used.

The children were able to see their journey from blackberry bush → berry → natural dye → their own creation.

It might look like we were simply painting tote bags, but there was so much learning happening before a paintbrush was even picked up. 🌳💚

That is the beauty of Forest School –,giving children the time, space and freedom to experience the whole process for themselves. 🍇

🌳☀️ What a summer it’s been at our Charlwood Forest School.☀️🌳

Our woodland has been full of adventure, laughter and learning this summer. The children have been busy working towards their Forest Skills Passports ,making elder pencils, learning to whittle, practising with ferro rods and even putting their skills to the test in our Woodland Olympics.🔥🪵🏅

There’s been den building, shelter making, muddy potions, woodland discoveries and lots of opportunities to try something new. But most importantly, we’ve seen confidence grow, new friendships form and children supporting one another as they learn new skills. 💚

Thank you to every child who joined us and helped make this summer such a special one.🌿

Looking for a fun, screen-free way to keep the children busy this summer? Forest School is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors, build confidence, learn new skills and enjoy a week of adventure in nature. 🌿

24th–28th August
Dorset House School, Bury, near Arundel
9:00am–3:30pm
£38.00 per day

Early drop-off and late collection are available at an additional cost:
Early drop-off from 8:30am – £5.00 per day
Late collection until 4:30pm – £10.00 per day (includes a small snack)

Join us for five days of outdoor adventure, nature play and hands-on learning. Children will work towards their Forest Skills Passport while developing skills in:

🌳 Forest School Adventures 🌳

We’ve been very busy in the woods.🍃🐸🦋

The children have been working towards their Forest Skills Passport, developing new skills, building confidence and enjoying plenty of hands-on learning along the way. ⭐

We’ve been getting creative with colour 🎨, learning how to safely use tools 🪚, practising fire lighting with adult supervision 🔥 and heading off on woodland scavenger hunts to see what we could discover.

There was lots of excitement when we found frogs 🐸, and the children have been caring for our woodland environment by creating a butterfly garden 🦋🌸 and building bug hotels for our smallest woodland visitors. 🐞

And when things got a little warm, there was plenty of water play to cool us down! 💦 We’ve also been getting messy with clay, mud and natural materials because Forest School wouldn’t be Forest School without a little mud.🤎🌿

Another wonderful few weeks of exploring, creating, taking safe risks and learning new woodland skills. 🌳💚

🌸🦋 Our preschoolers at thenurseryschoolcharlwood have been getting creative using wildflowers, leaves and berries to design their very own woodland butterflies.

After spending time observing the beautiful butterflies in our woodland, the children explored the natural colours and patterns they could find to create their own unique masterpieces. Nature really is the best artist! 🌼🍃🦋

🌳 Forest school Holiday club. 🌳

What an incredible week we had Dorset House School.The children loved collecting stamps in their Forest Skills Passports as they developed new skills and challenged themselves throughout the week.

They worked together to build impressive woodland shelters, learnt how to use tools safely while whittling, and developed their bushcraft skills by lighting mini fires. They challenged themselves climbing trees, enjoyed energetic team games, and got creative with a variety of woodland crafts using natural materials.

It was fantastic to see so much confidence, resilience, teamwork and laughter as the children embraced every woodland adventure. We can’t wait to do it all again in August at dorsethouseschool🌿🍃
