Autumn Fun at Gemma’s Little Penguins
Autumn has well and truly arrived at Gemma’s Little Penguins! The children have been learning all about the harvest and exploring the changes that happen in our environment during this beautiful season.
They have loved going on autumn walks, catching falling leaves, making tree rubbings, and taking part in an exciting autumn scavenger hunt. We’ve also enjoyed sharing the much-loved story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, which has inspired lots of imaginative play and outdoor adventures! 🍁🍁🍂

Harvest Festival Thank You
As part of our autumn term learning, the children have been exploring the meaning of Harvest Festival and the importance of giving and sharing.
We would like to say a big thank you to all the children and their families who donated so generously to the Free Shop Crawley. Together, we were able to donate two whole baskets of items!
Some of the children had the special opportunity to deliver the donations themselves. They enjoyed learning about the importance of sharing, as well as discussing different kinds of items that can make a real difference to others.
As the children reminded us, “sharing is caring.”

Ahoy 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️last week we had an exciting adventure celebrating Talk Like a Pirate Day! The children had so much fun dressing up in their pirate costumes and climbing aboard our pirate ship for imaginative play. Together, we practiced our pirate songs, sounds, and rhymes, filling the room with laughter and excitement.
The children showed great creativity as they acted out their pirate roles, worked together as a crew, and explored new words through rhymes and songs. It was a joyful day of play, language, and imagination — a true treasure for all! 🌟

Sorry we’ve been a little quiet — we’ve been busy learning new skills, exploring exciting places, and saying heartfelt goodbyes to our little ones heading off to school. It’s been an emotional but joyful time here at Gemma’s Little Penguins!

But we’re back and ready for a fun-filled September! We’ve kicked off the month by learning all about ourselves and our friends. We’ve been talking about and exploring who is in our family, celebrating the special people in our lives.

This week, we’ve taken our adventures across the seven seas as we dive into Talk Like a Pirate Day! 🏴‍☠️ From treasure hunts to pirate crafts, our little penguins are setting sail on a sea of imagination and discovery.

February has been so busy- we’ve had so much fun learning and playing!

We’ve learnt about our mental health during Mental Health week, looked at ‘The Colour Monster’ book and celebrated Valentine’s Day!

We also loved talking and learning about people that can help us- the children were very caring doctors!

Chinese New Year!

We had an amazing time celebrating the year of the snake!

The children learnt all about the story, and how each year is decided.

We tried some new Chinese food, made our own noodles, created our own lanterns and even made a huge dragon all together!

What an amazing time!

This week we celebrated national penguin day, we have been learning all about penguins and other artic animals. We found out they can live in all different types of houses so we used the magnet shapes to help our little penguins.

We also decided to create a life size penguin, using our hands to spread the paint all over which was very messy but very fun!

To end the week we went on special trip to Drusillas Park, we were delighted to see their penguins!!

All the children have loved playing in our ‘indoor snow’, learning about artic animals and cooking banana bread, and biscuits!

What a fantastic first week back!

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom- what a blast we had during Space Week!!

A range of activities including ‘moonments’, alien biscuits and learning how to get to the moon!!

We’ve had a SPOOK-TACULAR Autumn and Halloween!

It’s been full of park trips, parties and loads of crafty activities!!
