The children explored how natural materials can be used to make their own paint. They began by collecting berries🍇, leaves 🍃and petals 🌻from the natural environment, carefully choosing different colours and textures.
The children experimented with mixing, squashing and stirring the materials, discovering that different berries, leaves and petals produced different shades. This was a lovely hands-on experience where the children could see that materials from nature can be transformed into something they can create with.

🌿 Using plants as stamps and printing tools
the children press corn stems /wheat/grasses, leaves and other plant material into soft clay, using the natural objects almost like stamps.
As they press the plants into the clay, they are discovering that a natural object can leave behind an impression or texture. They can see the veins, stems, grains and shapes transferred into the clay.

Over the half term we have been busy here at Puddle ducks with lots of activities here are a few things that we’ve been doing!

🌻 1. Collecting and exploring the sunflowers
The children are first exploring the sunflower plants, looking closely at the flowers and collecting fallen or loose yellow petals. This gives them a direct connection with the garden and lets them notice the colour, shape, texture and structure of the sunflower.

🦋 2. Making sunflower-petal butterflies
They then arrange the yellow sunflower petals onto butterfly-shaped templates. The petals become the butterfly's wings, with the children deciding where to place them and how to create their own patterns.
