We love a campfire at forest school, it creates so many unique opportunities for children to learn. However, we have decided against lighting any fires for the duration of this prolonged period of dry weather. The risk of wildfires are too high and we value our woodland too much. Our children understand the role we play in keeping wildlife safe and our responsibilities involved with sharing our setting with so many creatures. There are just as many lessons taught by not lighting a fire!
With warm temperatures and dry conditions expected to continue, the risk of wildfires in West Sussex is very high.

Childhood was never meant to be confined 🤘🏻
Simply put… the best education doesn’t always happen in a classroom. 🌿✨ It happens in muddy puddles, climbing trees, bug hunts, and endless adventures. Outdoor play isn’t “just play”—it’s where confidence, resilience, creativity, and a love of learning grow. 🍃🤎

I am so excited to share that we had our registration visit this morning with Ofsted for our nursery and the feedback we received was so positive!
Our inspector noted how well thought out our site was, safeguarding had been considered at every opportunity and my knowledge of the EYFS and child development was “exemplary” 🥹 she loved our woodland and left saying she hoped to be assigned our first inspection as she was so excited to see the children use the space!
September here we come 😆
Story time, imagination on full blast, and smiles all around. 📚✨ Every tale becomes an adventure when little minds take the lead! 💛
Thank you Happily Ever After for visiting us, the children had so much fun 🥰

Boredom isn’t something to fix—it’s often where childhood really begins.
When children aren’t constantly entertained, they invent games, build dens, climb trees, chase bugs, solve problems, and create memories they’ll carry for years. The quiet moments are often the ones that spark the biggest adventures.
And there’s no better place for this than the woods - there’s no script, no right way to play, just endless opportunities to explore, imagine, create, take risks, and discover. Nature offers enough challenge to keep children engaged and enough freedom for them to lead their own play.
Maybe we don’t need to fill every minute. Maybe we just need to give them the time, space, and freedom to be bored long enough for their imagination to take over. 🌿✨
