The children have been learning practical skills today, all the children took part in making their own sandwiches. They had a variety of different fillings to chose from and independently spread the butter onto the bread, added their own fillings and cut their sandwiches into slices.
We discussed healthy eating, knife safety and food hygiene.
All the children thoroughly enjoyed this activity and everyone at Cranwell Romper Room would like to say a big THANK YOU to The Willows Country Store & Tearoom Limited for donating the delicious bread used for todays activity.

Healthy Eating
This week the children have been learning about healthy eating, during which they made their own salad and fruit salad pots to take home.
We discussed where the different fruit and vegtables grew, the colours and textures.
We talked about the importance of good food hygiene and we taught the children how to hold a knife safely.
The children independently selected and cut up the food.

Friendship Friday
When the children feel as though they belong, they have increased feelings of happiness and their overall well-being is better. Friendships are a great way to gain this feeling of belonging but it requires the children to have an understanding of their own emotions and the feelings of those around them. There are other central skills that help children to build friendships. These skills are , turn taking, sharing, listening, conflict resolution, co-operation, and collaberation.

Today, to support the children's social and emotional development the children took part in various different activities.
The children listened to a story based on friendships and then discussed how we can be kind to our friends, emotions, feelings, sharing, talking nicely, and using manners.
The children then enjoyed creating faces based on emotions.
We also did an activity where the children each chose a friend to work with, and in their pairs they picked a task from a jar and then worked together to complete that task.

To end our NDNA Healthy Body, Happy Me week, all the children received a certificate for taking part and for all of their hard work.

Healthy Body, Happy Me.
Wondrous Wednesday.
Curiousity is essential to create our future scientists, technicians, engineers, and inventors.
We need to provide opportunities for children to think for themselves, be creative with their ideas, make predictions and theorise about what may happen.

Today, a tuff tray was setup with bricks and shaving foam, which gave the children an opportunity to use rolling tools, or their hands to build using shaving foam. The children had to figure out if the shaving foam made good glue to allow the bricks to stick together. This activity encouraged the children to work together and problem solve, whilst creating their buildings.

Healthy Body, Happy Me.
Talking Tuesday was all about communication and language.
Today all the children got involved in the story of 'we are going on a bear hunt' the children used props to visualise the story and we discussed all elements of the story.
The children then took part in ' whats in the box game' they had to guess what item was being described to them and all had a turn at holding different items and describing the textures.

If you would like to do any activities at home you could:
1) Go for a walk, talk about what you can see?
2) Read stories, talk about the story, ask questions, can they make their own story up?
3)Talk about each others day, what made them happy or sad? Did you enjoy your lunch?
