A huge thank you to The Arts Society (Surrey Hills) for their generous funding of a Black History Month art project, which enabled our pupils to experience the joy that art can bring.

Inspired by the vibrant work of pioneering abstract artist Alma Thomas, our pupils explored creativity and self-expression through a series of colourful art workshops. Together, they created large-scale artworks reflecting Alma's distinctive mosaic-style approach and her belief that art should celebrate beauty and happiness.

The project provided a great opportunity for pupils to learn about an influential Black artist while developing their own artistic skills.

Our Sixth Form pupils are developing valuable skills for the future through a range of practical learning opportunities both in school and within our social enterprises.

Pupils successfully ran a Jacket Potato Enterprise project today, taking responsibility for every stage of the process, from managing pre-orders and preparing ingredients to serving customers, handling payments and delivering lunches across the school. The project provided excellent opportunities to develop teamwork, organisation, communication and customer service skills.

Some pupils have also been attending work experience placements at our social enterprise, Café on the Park, where they are gaining hands-on experience in front-of-house roles. Tasks such as wiping tables, re-stocking cutlery and completing end-of-day duties are helping pupils build confidence, independence and important employability skills in a real workplace setting.

These experiences are an important part of Sixth Form life, helping pupils develop the workplace skills that will support them as they move towards adulthood and future employment opportunities.

Science Week has been out of this world at Jigsaw School! 🚀

This year's theme is Space and pupils have been enjoying a range of exciting activities exploring our solar system through stories, music, learning and discovery.

A highlight of the week was an immersive Virtual Reality workshop delivered by The Education Group. Wearing VR headsets, pupils were transported into space to explore planets, moons and stars, experiencing the wonder of the universe in a truly memorable way.

As part of Science Week, pupils have also been learning about Mae Jemison, the first Black woman to travel into space, linking their learning with our Black History Month activities.

A huge thank you to Iain Carter from The Education Group for delivering such an engaging experience and to Amy Wilkinson for organising a fantastic week of space-themed learning opportunities.

Last week, pupils across Jigsaw School took part in a range of engaging activities as part of First Aid Week, helping them develop valuable life skills and confidence in supporting others.

The week began with assemblies introducing pupils to the importance of first aid and how they can help in an emergency. Activities included first aid role play, learning when to call 999, watching age-appropriate first aid demonstrations and even creating their own first aid kits.

We were delighted that Nicole Shim, Lead Teacher, led a series of practical first aid workshops throughout the week, giving pupils hands-on experience and building their understanding of basic first aid principles.

Pupils also had the opportunity to learn from Anthony (Tony) Pascal, Community Resilience Lead from South East Coast Ambulance Service, who delivered interactive sessions on basic first aid and CPR. These workshops gave pupils the chance to explore emergency response skills and learn more about the work carried out by emergency services.

Thank you to Nicole and Tony for helping make First Aid Week such a memorable learning experience.

A huge well done to our amazing Jigsaw runners who completed the Vitality London 10K on Sunday.

Gail and Michelle along with Ella, Jemima, Emma and Fraser took on the challenge in warm conditions and showed fantastic support for Jigsaw Trust.
