Dulwich Cranbrook Dulwich Cranbrook - an independent day and flexible boarding school for boys and girls aged 2 to 16. Welcome to the page for Dulwich Prep Cranbrook.

Founded in 1939 when Dulwich London evacuated at the start of World War II, we are situated in 50 acres of glorious countryside in the heart of the Weald of Kent, just outside the market town of Cranbrook. We are part of a charitable trust with Dulwich Prep London as our sister school. Our school consists of three sections - Nash House, Little Stream and Upper School - which work together to make a stronger, more vibrant whole.

We are thrilled to announce that The Dulwich School Cranbrook has been named Independent Pre-Prep School of the Year at the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2026!

An independent panel of judges selected the winners from over 1,000 nominations, making this a fantastic achievement and a well-deserved recognition of our outstanding Pre-Prep provision.

At Dulwich, purposeful, progressive and profound play lies at the heart of our Early Years provision. Makaton is embedded throughout daily life, ensuring every child can communicate and be heard. Specialist music teaching begins from age two through the Kodály approach, developing listening, memory and self-expression. Outdoor learning encourages resilience, collaboration and problem-solving through meaningful challenge and exploration. And last year saw the introduction of structured woodwork sessions, with children confidently sawing, drilling and joining materials by the end of Reception.

A huge thank you to our wonderful pupils, dedicated staff, and supportive families who make Dulwich such a special place. We are incredibly proud to have won this award.

We are delighted to welcome Miss Thompson to Dulwich this year!

Miss Thompson joins our Prep team as a Year 6 Form Teacher, alongside her role as a Drama and Music teacher.

With a passion for music, performance and helping young people find their voice, her career in education began as a singing teacher. She went on to become an Estill Master Trainer, qualified to teach the principles of Estill Voice Training, before achieving Qualified Teacher Status and completing a PGCE at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Before moving into teaching, she studied Songwriting at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London, earning a BA (Hons), and enjoyed an international career as a singer and songwriter, performing at festivals, venues and on radio. While she found performing incredibly rewarding, she discovered that her true passion lay in inspiring and supporting young people.

At Dulwich Cranbrook, she encourages pupils to express themselves through Music and Drama, discover their individuality and develop a love of creativity and performance. She aims to help every pupil find their voice, build confidence and develop the courage and resilience to support them throughout life.

We are so pleased to welcome her to the Dulwich family!

We have a longstanding relationship with Marden Hockey Club, our second home hockey fixture venue, where our teams play every week. Many of our pupils represent the Club, and Mr de Wet has recently taken on coaching the Club’s U8s.

We are delighted to be sponsoring the Ladies’ 1st XI this season, captained by our Head of Girls’ Games, Miss Payne. We look forward to continuing to build on this close relationship with Marden through our shared passion for hockey.

We are delighted to welcome Mrs MMC to Dulwich this year!

Mrs MMC joins our Prep team as a Year 3 Form Teacher, alongside her role as Head of Girls’ Games for Years 3–6.

Before joining Dulwich, she spent 12 years at a London prep school, where she was a Year 4 and 5 Form Teacher and Head of Girls’ Games.

She loves all sport and being outdoors, but most of all enjoys inspiring children to be curious, confident and enthusiastic learners, helping them to grow in confidence and achieve their very best both in and out of the classroom.

We are so pleased to welcome her to the Dulwich family!

Outdoor Bread Making

Our Reception children had a wonderful time making bread dough last week, ready to cook over the fire during their outdoor learning session. They enjoyed getting hands-on with the ingredients, making the dough from scratch and discussing what would happen when it was cooked. They were thrilled to taste their freshly baked bread around the fire! 🔥🍞
