We are lucky to have amazing volunteers from Cranbrook School who are working towards their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award.

This week, they supported the children in testing the ph of soil in different parts of the site, then experimented with juice and detergent solutions. They also helped our children learn the illusive Bowline knot. 🫶📿🧪🌳

We had a lovely donation of wooden eggs for Easter! These children spent some time identifying different British bird eggs then decorated the eggs to show the difference 🐣

We loved watching this creative mind at work today ( for 2 hours!) - such a problem solver. He designed and built a stadium in which his figures could compete then invited his friends to play 🫶

This lovely group started the week with site maintenance.
It’s important that our Explorers:
🌲take responsibility for the space
🌲build a connection with nature - by encouraging wildlife to the site
🌲learn how to make and build - to enhance the space and build their own confidence

How do you measure progress at Forest School?

The six Forest School principles emphasise the importance of learner-led activity and observation over time.

1) ✨ observe an interest

- early last year this delightful Explorer showed an interest in learning how to tie ropes and knots so we practised together.

2) ✨ provide the tools for that interest to grow ( independently - without adults getting in the way)

- she asked for the knot passport and some rope to take home.

3) ✨ check in and encourage

She returned to Forest School this week, reviewed her own progress and taught us what she’d learnt.

4) ✨ Extend the interest

She’s now set herself the challenge to apply her knowledge for practical use, starting with rope swings and shelters.
