🐦 Gull-d Luck! A Seagull Rescue at Head Start 🩺💙

Our industrial unit is home to lots of seagulls, and at this time of year we've been watching plenty of fluffy chicks taking their first wobbly steps. In fact, one adventurous youngster even wandered into our unit recently to say hello! 😄

Sadly, another seagull wasn't feeling quite so adventurous. It was spotted looking unwell while taking shelter outside one of the neighbouring units.

Our fantastic manager, Emma, sprang into action, carefully rescuing the bird and taking it to Moorview Vets for a check-up.

We're delighted to share that the team at Moorview Vets examined the seagull and confirmed it was healthy enough to be collected by Blyth Wildlife Rescue, who will now care for it, help it recover, and release it back into the wild when it's ready.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in helping our feathered neighbour. We wish our special visitor a speedy recovery and hope to see it soaring over Head Start again very soon! 🕊️💙

Last week our students took part in activities for Mental Health Awareness Week 💚

Throughout the week, students explored the importance of wellbeing, positive connections, and taking time to look after ourselves and others. They got involved in a range of creative and collaborative activities including group jigsaws, bracelet making, scratch art, and other mindful tasks designed to encourage teamwork, conversation, and self-expression.

It was great to see students supporting one another, showing creativity, and taking time to reflect on the importance of mental wellbeing.

It’s that special time of year again when we promote our new apprenticeship vacancies for September. 😊

In total this year, we are advertising 13 apprenticeships across Bernicia in a wide range of exciting roles.

✅1 x Level 4 – Anti-Social Behaviour and Community Safety – Housing Services (based in Ashington or Durham)
✅1 x Level 4 – Data Analyst – Customer Insight and Engagement

Our Employability Team is organising two drop-in events for anyone who would like to call in and chat about the apprenticeship opportunities, with an option of signing up for some one-to-one support on application and interview preparation.

These events will take place on:

📅Wednesday May 13 from 4pm to 7pm at our Ashwood HQ office
📅Tuesday May 19 from 4pm to 7pm at our Durham office.

All these vacancies are advertised on the Government's Find an Apprenticeship website - we've put a link to them in the comments below.

Closing date for applications for the apprentice roles is Monday June 1.

Interviews will be held over two weeks – weeks beginning Monday June 29 and Monday July 6.
