Last week our students took part in activities for Mental Health Awareness Week 💚

Throughout the week, students explored the importance of wellbeing, positive connections, and taking time to look after ourselves and others. They got involved in a range of creative and collaborative activities including group jigsaws, bracelet making, scratch art, and other mindful tasks designed to encourage teamwork, conversation, and self-expression.

It was great to see students supporting one another, showing creativity, and taking time to reflect on the importance of mental wellbeing.

It’s that special time of year again when we promote our new apprenticeship vacancies for September. 😊

In total this year, we are advertising 13 apprenticeships across Bernicia in a wide range of exciting roles.

✅1 x Level 4 – Data Analyst – Customer Insight and Engagement

Our Employability Team is organising two drop-in events for anyone who would like to call in and chat about the apprenticeship opportunities, with an option of signing up for some one-to-one support on application and interview preparation.

These events will take place on:

📅Wednesday May 13 from 4pm to 7pm at our Ashwood HQ office
📅Tuesday May 19 from 4pm to 7pm at our Durham office.

All these vacancies are advertised on the Government's Find an Apprenticeship website - we've put a link to them in the comments below.

Closing date for applications for the apprentice roles is Monday June 1.

Interviews will be held over two weeks – weeks beginning Monday June 29 and Monday July 6.

What a fantastic way to end the term! 🎉

Our Ashington unit students had an amazing time on their Easter reward trip to Activate, where they put their teamwork, energy and problem-solving skills to the test in a range of fun, interactive challenges 🧠⚡

It was brilliant to see everyone getting involved, supporting each other and having a well-deserved reward for all of their hard work this term.

A great day full of smiles, laughter and a little bit of healthy competition! 👏

It’s been a fantastic day at our Cramlington unit focusing on building important life skills.

Students got hands-on with some practical tasks, with some turning their hand to painting and decorating, even trying out a bit of wallpapering and learning the patience and precision it takes to get it just right! 🎨🪜

Meanwhile, others spent time in the kitchen, working on their cooking skills by perfecting pizza wraps from preparation through to cooking. The best part? Enjoying the finished results together as a well-earned snack! 🍕

Days like this are a great way for students to develop confidence, independence and practical skills that they can take with them into everyday life. A brilliant effort from everyone involved! 👏

This week at our Ashington unit we celebrated World Book Day in style! 📚✨

Staff went all out, dressing up as characters from Despicable Me – with plenty of mischievous Minions and a fantastic Gru around the building bringing lots of laughs and energy to the day! The effort from staff helped create a fun atmosphere and reminded everyone how stories and characters can bring people together.

Alongside the celebrations, students have been working hard in lessons updating some of our unit displays. New work has been added for our Solar System topic, with creative pieces exploring planets and space, and our Textiles display has been refreshed with some fantastic student designs and practical work.

It’s been a brilliant week of creativity, learning and fun – well done to all of our students for their effort and to staff for fully embracing the spirit of the day! 🌍🚀🧵

What a week it’s been at Cramlington Head Start! 🎉🌟

Our Rewards Week has been packed with fun, creativity and well-earned celebrations from start to finish!

Students kicked things off with trips out to Lane7 and Fayre Play – enjoying games, laughter and a bit of friendly competition. Smiles all round and memories made!

Back at the unit, we got stuck into early Pancake Day celebrations 🥞 with some delicious creations (and plenty of toppings!). The creativity didn’t stop there… students had the chance to get colourful with body paint and glitter ✨🎨 – embracing self-expression, confidence and lots of sparkle!

Rewards Week is all about recognising effort, positive choices and the brilliant progress our young people make every day – and this week truly showed that.

A huge well done to everyone who earned their place – you should be proud of yourselves 👏💫

Today’s rewards at Ashington Head Start were a big hit! 🍕🎉

We got hands-on in the kitchen making our own delicious pizzas – lots of toppings, lots of creativity, and even more smiles! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

After that, it was game time with some competitive Kahoot quizzes 🧠💡 – the energy was HIGH!

We finished off the session cracking open our fortune cookies to see what the future has in store for us 🥠✨ Some very interesting predictions!

Yesterday at Ashington Head Start we had the best reward session! 🥞✨

We celebrated Pancake Day in style – enjoying some tasty treats and getting creative by decorating our very own mugs 🎨☕ The designs were amazing!

To top it all off, we spent some well-earned time in our brand new rewards room 🎉 A fantastic way to celebrate hard work and positive choices.
