🚧 Ballynamony Road Closure – Update

I’ve had a number of residents in touch
regarding the closure of the Ballynamony Road this morning.

I fully appreciate the need for essential road repairs, but I was concerned to hear from residents who had not been notified in advance and were caught unaware by the closure and diversion arrangements.

The situation was particularly difficult this morning, with reports of significant confusion and disruption due to a lack of signage and clear diversion information.

I have now received an update from DfI, who have confirmed that the traffic management company did not arrive on site in time. A DfI representative attended this morning and has raised the issue directly with the contractor.

DfI have apologised for the lack of signage and diversion information and the inconvenience caused to the travelling public.

I appreciate the response from DfI and the fact that the issue has been addressed, but I remain concerned about the communication with residents ahead of the closure. People living in the area should have been given clear and timely information about works that would significantly affect access and their daily journeys.

I’ll continue to raise these concerns with DfI and keep residents updated.

Thank you to everyone who contacted me this morning. It’s important that these issues are highlighted so lessons can be learned for future road closures and works.

The closure will remain in place up until the weekend - with diversions in place.
