🇫🇷 ÇA VAUT LE COUP

Une expression que les Français utilisent tout le temps.

Ça vaut le coup = It’s worth it / It’s worth doing.

📚 Ce livre est un peu difficile, mais ça vaut le coup.

☕ Le café est à vingt minutes à pied, mais ça vaut le coup.

🎬 Le film dure trois heures, mais ça vaut vraiment le coup.

Et pour dire le contraire ?

Ça ne vaut pas le coup.

À vous : qu’est-ce qui vaut vraiment le coup en ce moment dans votre vie ?

Essayez de répondre avec une phrase en français. 🇫🇷

📖 You understand French… but how do you find your own words?

In my new video, I open *La Déraison* by Agnès Martin-Lugand and read a few lines about the sea.

Together, we explore useful vocabulary, the imparfait, and ways to describe a landscape in French. Then it’s your turn to try a little writing or speaking.

🌊 Do you prefer a calm sea or crashing waves? Try answering in French in the comments!

🇫🇷 Comment dire « I changed my mind » en français ?

A book you thought you wouldn’t enjoy. An invitation you nearly turned down. A first impression that didn’t last…

What made you change your mind — and how would you tell that story in French?

This week’s article explores five useful expressions:

✨ Changer d’avis
✨ Se rendre compte que
✨ Finir par…
✨ Voir les choses autrement
✨ Revenir sur sa décision

You’ll find examples, a short story in French and a writing prompt to try them yourself.

💬 À vous : quelle est la dernière chose sur laquelle vous avez changé d’avis ?

A little French writing for your Sunday ✍️

Imagine you find an old ticket tucked inside a book. It could be a train ticket, a cinema ticket or a ticket to a concert.

Write a few sentences in French about the day you used it. Where did you go? Who were you with? What made you keep it?

You can use a real memory or invent one.

Here are a few phrases to help you begin:

« Ce jour-là, j’étais… »
That day, I was…

« Je me souviens surtout de… »
What I remember most is…

« J’ai gardé ce billet parce que… »
I kept this ticket because…

Choose one small detail to bring the memory to life: something someone said, the weather, a song you heard.

I’d love to read your story in the comments 😊

Do you have an object you could never throw away?

An old notebook, a chipped cup, a book with someone’s handwriting inside… You know why you keep it. But could you explain why in French?

“J’y tiens beaucoup.”
It means a lot to me.

“Il me rappelle quelqu’un.”
It reminds me of someone.

“Je n’arrive pas à m’en séparer.”
I can’t bring myself to part with it.

In my new article, you’ll find useful vocabulary, natural French expressions and a complete example to help you tell the story of an object that matters to you.

Choose two or three phrases that feel useful, and try them with your own story.

📖

A chipped cup, an old ticket, a notebook, a piece of jewellery or a book with someone’s handwriting inside can carry a person, a place or a whole period of life. When you talk about such an object in French, describing its colour and shape is only the beginning. You also need words for attachment,...

Sometimes the hardest part of French is not finding a word.

It’s choosing between several possible ways to say the same thing.

For example:

Je pense que…
Je crois que…
Je trouve que…

They are close, but they don’t feel exactly the same.

That is where French starts becoming more precise.

Not by learning hundreds of new words.

By noticing the small differences between the words you already know.

Do you understand French, but sometimes struggle to find your words when you want to speak or write?

Tomorrow, I’m hosting a free masterclass:
Écrire pour trouver ses mots en français

We’ll use guided writing to help make your French more available — not by starting again from the beginning, but by using the French you already have.

We’ll write, look at how to make your sentences more natural, and use writing as a bridge towards speaking more easily.

You haven’t forgotten your French.
If you learned French years ago, you may feel as if you’ve lost it.
But very often, it’s still there.
You understand more than you think.
You recognise words.
You can still read.
Sometimes you even know exactly what you want to say… but the words don’t come quickly enough.

You don’t necessarily need to start again from the beginning.

You need to use your French again.
Read something short.
Write a few sentences.
Say them out loud.
Have a real conversation.

Little by little, the language becomes available again.
That’s one of the things I love working on with adults who come back to French after several years.

When did you last really use your French? 🇫🇷
