What can we say, we're kinda chic! Although our day to day is anything but! When the days are hot and sweaty, you're covered in sunscreen and dirt, your hands and body are sore and all you really want is a shower, we do not feel chic! But when you step back and reflect on how far we've come and what we've built in that time, it's kinda cool and we hope you guys think so too!

August is disappearing before our very eyes as the team has so many projects to coordinate this month, but we're determined to keep soaking up the magic of this summer and squeeze every drop of joy out of rig life while it's at its' peak.  Don't panic though, we're not done yet. September classes will be going on sale in the next few days so there's plenty more trapeze time still to come.

So you've been flying regularly for a while, you have your swing out of lines and a couple of competent backend tricks that you catch consistently in lines and the possibility of taking a trick out of lines enters the chat. How hard can doing a half twist to your back mid air really be? Well, for some people, really damn hard!

This can be a pretty frustrating skill to learn, but it's a crucial element for any flyer looking to develop the out of lines aspect of their trapeze journey.

Things that will help:

Progressions
- get confident taking skills to a safe front landing position. On a crash mat, on a trampoline with a mat or to the net with the lines puller slowing your descent where necessary. This will help you build confidence falling, teach you to maintain body tension and resist breaking shape, increasing the chance to successful future twisting attempts.

Choice of skill
- consider learning to twist from skills where you are already in an optimal position to twist first i.e. where your body is already tight and in a straight line such as face off, planche, aussie whip. This reduces the number of things you need to think about and allows you to focus on executing the twist.

Visual imagery
- mentally rehearse what you will see during twisting attempts and give yourself visual references to spot to help build confidence about where you are in the air.
- physically rehearse the twisting technique you are planning to use in the air on the ground before you head up the ladder.
- use visual analogies that work for you. Top tip from one of our students recently "Imagine your body has tassles and you're trying to shake them to one side!"

Save this post to check in with next time you're working your twist to the net.

Last week, we were fortunate enough to have the wonderful Dayna Thompson lead three workshops for us at High Fly Trapeze.

In spite of the weather testing us a little at times, we managed to pack in over 23 hours of trapeze in the space of five days and share over a decade's worth of knowledge with 24 students, as well as our staff.

Huge thanks to Dayna for sharing her expertise so openly and generously, as well as bringing fresh energy and enthusiasm to our rig! Her technical insight was so helpful and a great reminder that paying attention to the details always pays off in long run.

What a wild ride this has been! Last Monday 4th May marked High Fly's 7th birthday and here we are posting about it a week later, accurately portraying what running a small business is like most of the time: hectic!

There's always a hundred things you could be doing, things you feel you should be doing better and your time always feels like it should be managed more effectively. Sometimes we miss social occasions because we're coaching evenings and weekends, and the rest of our time is spent juggling admin, social media, marketing, planning, and trying to carve out time and energy to go to the gym ourselves to stay fit and be able to do our jobs well! The never ending "to do" list can be overwhelming and when you're running on empty in the middle of August, it feels impossible to keep on top of everything!

However, stepping back and seeing how far we've come in this time is also incredible and a great reminder of why we do what we do! Running our own trapeze school has brought some of the absolute best people into our lives, so much laughter, some wonderful memories and we're so grateful for all of it. So here's to the next seven years and Beyond!
