This song sums up first and CPR perfectly!

Not only are there a few messages in it:

1) Tomorrow is never promised - we always think we ‘have time’ 🕰️🗓️

2) Others may not have ‘time’ if they need emergency first aid or CPR 🤕💔

3) If you’re going to do something, do it now! (if you can) - life really is too short! 🤔👍❣️

4) Always be awesome and make it spectacular! ✨🎇💖

…… but it’s also the perfect rate for CPR - 120 beats per minute! ❤️💔❤️🤗

Yesterday some of the KM First Aid events team attended the Scottish Community Resuscitation Conference at St Andrews University.
Many thanks to the East Neuk First Responders for being excellent hosts and to all the speakers and those who ran the workshops.

Lots of interesting discussions and lots of information and ideas taken away by many of us!

❣️”It’s easy to use a defibrillator”❣️

❣️”You don’t need any special training to use one”❣️

❣️”You just switch it on and follow what it tells you to do”❣️

‼️These are all true!‼️

❣️You CAN use one without having had any training❣️

❣️You DO just switch it on and follow the instructions as it speaks to you❣️

❣️It IS easy to use one❣️

Nearly 55% of UK adults say they would feel reluctant to use a defibrillator because they don't think they have the knowledge or skills needed.*

The reality is that defibrillators are designed to be simple and user-friendly. They provide clear instructions, and a 999 call handler can guide you through the process too.

Because early defibrillation can significantly improve the chances of surviving a cardiac arrest, it's vital that more people feel confident stepping forward to use one.

This is very good advice!
Just because it’s hot, the water isn’t. It stays cold ……

It's still warm out across the country. Please remember this important safety advice ☀️

👉 Hot weather does not mean the water is warm.
👉 Cold water shock can occur even in summer.
👉 Look after yourself and others when swimming or cooling off.
👉 Learn and follow the Water Safety Code.
👉 Stay aware of the risks and cool down safely around water.

Thanks also to Leven crew - Sarah Basaj Paramedic and Gayle Barney Technician and student paramedic Jenna O’Harra - for sending in this picture taken at East Wemyss

This is a discussion I have a lot on first aid courses.

A bit late posting this, but last week KM First Aid was delighted to support Kincardine Gala for a second year, and for their 50th anniversary too!
It was a great day and we were so pleased that the weather held this year for it.

A great day out in the sun!☀️

Are you a Goodsam CPR responder in your local area?
Would you like more information about it?
You don’t need to be a trained first aider, you just need to know how to do CPR.

Here’s the link to the GoodSAM website where there’s lots of information:

Watch out for some CPR training sessions coming up with KM First Aid in the next few months!

GoodSAM technology helps organisations worldwide deliver better care, streamline resources, and ultimately save lives.

It was a privilege to meet and chat with this amazing lady, Suzzi, yesterday, and to hear more about Pauline's Law.
Suzzi is tirelessly campaigning in memory of her late mum, Pauline, to introduce first aid training in schools to ensure that young people leave with first aid skills.

Suzzi sadly lost her mum last year after she suddenly collapsed whilst out with her husband.
To listen to Suzzi share her family’s story and their gratitude for those around, including members of the public and staff in Dobbies in Stirling where her mum and dad had stopped for a cuppa, who rushed to help and to work together to perform CPR, was truly moving. Complete strangers who pulled together when someone needed them most.
Suzzi’s drive and determination to introduce Pauline’s Law are admirable and it was a pleasure to spend time with her yesterday.

As a first aid trainer, I support everything Suzzi is campaigning for and I’ve taught Student First Aid in schools and have seen first-hand how much young people can achieve.
I also try to dispel people’s fears about learning and performing CPR because it’s one part of first aid training which causes fear and anxiety.

But I have a very personal interest in this too.
I also lost my mum last year, so I can understand that loss. Not only that, but my father-in-law collapsed suddenly on the day that my mum died, and my mother-in-law was also helped by strangers and the staff from where they had just been who all stepped in to help with CPR. We sadly lost him 4 days later.
A few years ago a younger member of my immediate family also suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 26. He also had immediate CPR and thankfully he survived and has since made a full recovery.

So I feel very privileged to be supporting Suzzi and her family with Pauline’s Law ❤️
