Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus! We celebrated our patron saint on the last day of the half term with a traditional Eisteddfod in the Main Hall. Students from across Lower and Middle School came together to celebrate as a community. There were competitions held across the school and the winners were named at the Eisteddfod. As you can see, a lot of fun was had and we got to hear everyone’s excellent singing voices! The day was brought to a close with the chairing of the Bard. The 2025 winner of this was Eleri from Year 8. Da Iawn!

A little about Saint David... Saint David is the patron saint of Wales and is celebrated across the country on the 1st of March. Welsh people from all over the world mark the day by wearing one of the two national symbols. These symbols are the daffodil, or the leek. Welsh people will also greet each other with ‘Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus’, which translates as happy St Davids Day in Welsh. St David was born in the year 500, the grandson of Ceredig ap Cunedda, King of Ceredigion. According to legend, his mother St Non gave birth to him on a Pembrokeshire clifftop during a fierce storm. The spot is marked by the ruins of Non’s Chapel, and a nearby holy well is said to have healing powers. St David died on 1 March – St David’s Day - in 589. He was buried at the site of St Davids Cathedral, where his shrine was a popular place of pilgrimage throughout the Middle Ages. His last words to his followers came from a sermon he gave on the previous Sunday: ‘Be joyful, keep the faith, and do the little things that you have heard and seen me do.’ The phrase ‘Gwnewch y pethau bychain mewn bywyd’ - ‘Do the little things in life’ - is still a well-known maxim in Wales.
