It’s great to start the year with a new PB. It was a tough day today on the river Test with friends Gary Brooks and Duncan Charman. Conditions were not great with the river carrying extra water after recent rain, but Duncan’s experience put us both on the fish. A few brown and sea trout caught, along with several grayling - beating my PB three times today.

Congratulations to Peter Rees who caught a Welsh record carp of 49lb 15oz last month at Llyn Cae Ty Nant fishery near Tregaron. This beats the current record carp from The Wharf, Cardiff Bay.

So sad to see the algae bloom and oxygen crash at Llandrindod Wells leading to a fish kill. I fished there for tench and crucians in the early 80s and Chris Yates caught his first 20lb carp from there. Looks like several carp have not survived.
