👏 Congratulations to David who ran and finished first 🥇 in The Rosebud Marathon earlier this month. David used the marathon as an opportunity to raise money through sponsorship for the Warwick in Africa programme.
Well done to David not only on his success in the marathon but also reaching his fundraising target. 👏
📢Introducing our 2024 cohort of Volunteer Student Teachers.
Our Volunteer Student Teachers provide classroom assistance in our partner schools in Ghana, Tanzania and South Africa teaching Maths or English. In just 10 weeks our first group will be starting their placement bring their energy and enthusiasm to the classroom.
As part of their experience our volunteers commit to raising £1,000 to support the sustainability of the programme and develop a new set of skills through the process. We are delighted that 7 volunteers have already reached their target and 7 more have hit the 50% mark, leaving the group at 60% of the overall target with plenty of time to go.
Thank you for all your fundraising efforts and good luck reaching the targets!
Great to see that half of our students have now passed the 50% mark of their fundraising targets. Over the last few months our Volunteer Student Teachers have used a variety of methods including sales, busking, attending events, giving talks, applying for grants and competitions to raise funds for the Warwick in Africa programme.
Thank you for all your fundraising efforts!
We recently learned the sad news that Mr Ambani Maanda passed away last year. He was the Deputy Principal of one of our partner schools, Edison Nesengani Secondary School in Limpopo, South Africa, and a great supporter of Warwick in Africa having spent time with our student volunteers and attended our in-country workshops (pictured here with our volunteers in 2022). RIP 🙏
📣A big congratulations to Ayesha and Tilly our first two volunteers to reach their fundraising target this year. Fundraising plays a large part in the Volunteer Student Teacher experience. Throughout the process our volunteers develop new skills, learn more about the programme, and spread its message as well as contributing to, and supporting the sustainability of the programme.
👋 Say hello to our 2024 Team Leaders.
Our Team Leaders play a vital role in the programme. Not only do they complete a Volunteer Student Teacher placement they also get involved behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of the programme. They provide support for our new volunteers and assist with the administration, communications, coordination and evaluation of the programme.
This year's group of Team Leaders come with a wealth of experience having volunteered previously on the programme. The group have experience teaching Maths and English and volunteering in various locations across South Africa 🇿🇦 and Ghana 🇬🇭.
