To mark the start of Refugee Week 2026, whose theme this year is Courage, Tom, Jacob and Grace from Year 12 travelled to London to take part in a day organised by the Missionary Society of St Columban and the Faithful Companions of Jesus. They heard powerful testimonies from people with lived experience of seeking refuge before joining the Third Monday Prayer Vigil outside the Home Office. The students were a real credit to the school, engaging thoughtfully throughout the day and demonstrating great maturity and compassion.

I really enjoyed the day, I thought it was very powerful and eye-opening. I think it was very beneficial to attend and it gave me a lot of courage too. Jacob

It was an extremely impactful day which helped to strengthen my empathy towards refugees and asylum seekers. It has opened my eyes to the difficulties and horrors which refugees face. Tom

Today was a very great opportunity for us to be with community and be together for refugee week outside the home office. Speaking for those who do not have a voice, telling their story and taking the small steps to a positive change. Grace

A Huge than you to Fr. Simon and parishioners at Saint Thomas More for their incredibly warm welcome today for Mass and mingle. Students took cakes and fruit to share with parishioners after Mass over conversation. Students received lots of lovely compliments from the parishioners and we can’t wait to go back!
