“Spring” (summer) clean ☀️🫧 🧹

During the summer holidays we are still busy worker bees 🐝

Except it becomes a family affair 👏🏼

Carolanne sanded the wood and the George family come together to stain all the wood.
We also did lots of gardening and replanting ready for the autumn 🍂

Keeping our things in ship shape order and ready for children 🫶🏼

🩷Did you know that rule number 6 at Georgie Porgies is ‘looking after our belongings and each other’.
Safe to say we do this in abundance💚

💚The Environment is the Third Teacher 💚
Every decision within our environment has been made with one question in mind...
"How does this make a child feel?"

At Georgie Porgies, we believe a child's first teacher is their family. We are privileged to become their second teacher, building relationships, nurturing confidence and inspiring a lifelong love of learning. There has been an abundance of research to suggest that the environment then becomes the third teacher, quietly influencing every experience, every interaction and every opportunity to grow.

Our environment hasn't always looked like this.
Like many early years settings, there was once a time when our walls were brighter, our displays were fuller and we believed that more colour meant more learning.
But through years of reflection, professional study, research and, most importantly, observing children, our philosophy changed.
Research has shown that excessive visual stimulation can make it harder for young children to concentrate, regulate their attention and fully engage in learning. We wanted our environment to do the opposite.

Our love of Hygge became the foundation of that journey.
For us, Hygge isn't about creating beige classrooms or following a trend. It's about creating an atmosphere where children feel calm, safe, connected and truly at home. It is found in our relationships, our routines, our cosy corners, our natural resources and the sense of belonging that every child deserves to feel.
Over time, we have adapted these principles to create an environment that not only nurtures wellbeing but also prepares children for the world beyond our doors.
Schools are often less visually stimulating than early years settings, yet they demand greater levels of concentration, independence and resilience. We believe our role is to prepare children for that transition, not by making learning louder, but by making it richer.
Our practitioners bring the learning to life through meaningful conversations, sustained shared thinking and carefully planned experiences. The environment simply supports that learning; it doesn't compete with it.
Our walls don't need to shout.
The children's voices are loud enough.
At Georgie Porgies, we don't believe the most powerful environments are those filled with the most things.
We believe they're the ones where children feel secure enough to wonder, confident enough to explore and inspired enough to become lifelong learners.
Because when families are the first teacher, practitioners are the second and the environment becomes the third, extraordinary things happen. 🩷

🍩 our week has consisted of doughnuts and today was no exception 😍
Our week has been super quiet, with just a few children in, however it’s also the end of an era for many children off to school 🌟 which calls for celebrations and treats 🩷🐷💚
