Today Year 9s visited our partner school El colegio de nuestra señora del milagro who treated us to a Flamenco show to celebrate 10 years of Finham Park MAT schools visiting Almería. We then had a tour of the school followed by a language exchange and an England v Spain football match.

Today we visited a farm in the “sea of plastic”. In the 60s farms in the Almería area kept losing crops due to high winds, so to protect the plants they put them in giant plastic greenhouses. A side effect of this meant that crops could be grown over winter, and made it easy to keep pests away. These are some of the most sustainable farms in the world and next time you go to a British supermarket in winter and your fruit/veg says Spain it’s probably come from one of these farms. We then had a tour of the Cabo de Gata natural park followed by a traditional Spanish lunch of “paella de marisco”. This evening we have been preparing questions ready to ask the Spanish students tomorrow at school.

Today Year 9s visited the Alhambra en Granada, one of the best examples of Moorish architecture and the legacy of Muslim rule in Spain from the 7th century to 1492. Once the catholic King and Queen kicked the last Muslims out of Spain at the battle of Granada in 1492 Spain used its spare money to fund Christopher Columbus’ voyage of discovery of the Americas.

📚 Every Day Matters. Every Lesson Matters. Every Opportunity Matters.
At Finham Park 2, we are relentless in our focus on attendance because we know that being in school is one of the biggest factors in helping young people achieve their potential.
A Department for Education report published in March 2025 highlighted just how important attendance is, not only for examination outcomes, but for future life chances and earnings. The research found that pupils with near-perfect attendance (99–100%) were earning an average of £32,200 by age 28, compared to £10,100 for those with attendance below 50%.
Whilst attendance is about far more than money, the message is clear: being in school regularly opens doors, creates opportunities and gives young people the very best chance of success.
That's why we continue to work closely with students and families to promote excellent attendance and remove barriers wherever possible. Thank you to the overwhelming majority of our families who support this every day.
💙 Every lesson. Every opportunity. Every day.

🍎🥯🍕 Food is Fuel 🍕🥯🍎
One of the simplest truths in education is that food is fuel. If we want young people to be at their best, we need to help them put the right fuel in.
At Finham Park 2, we're passionate about healthy eating and helping students understand the importance of nutrition, not just for learning, but for life. Good food supports concentration, energy levels, physical wellbeing, mental health and long-term healthy habits.
That's why we're proud of both our innovative Food curriculum, where students learn valuable life skills and practical cooking techniques, and our school catering offer, which provides a wide range of nutritious and affordable options throughout the day.
Whether it's before school, at break or lunchtime, students can access a range of hot and cold food choices at very reasonable prices. Of course, packed lunches remain a great option too, but we're proud of the quality and value of the meals available every day.
📅 Next week we will be on Week 2 of our menu cycle.
A huge thank you to our catering team for everything they do to keep our students fuelled and ready to learn every day.

At Finham Park 2, we believe that high standards matter.
Being the best version of ourselves isn't just about what happens in lessons – it's about every choice we make, every day, including how we present ourselves.
Our uniform is an important part of our school culture. It promotes a sense of belonging, creates equality, reduces distractions and helps foster the professional attitudes that will serve our young people well throughout their lives.
Most importantly, it reflects our core values of Pride, Respect and Responsibility.
🔹 Pride in ourselves and our school community
🔹 Respect for the standards we share and uphold together
🔹 Responsibility for arriving each day ready to learn and succeed
As we move through the summer term, we are continuing to reinforce our uniform expectations to ensure every student is dressed correctly and ready for the day ahead.
Thank you to the overwhelming majority of our students and families who support these standards every day. Together, we create a school community that we can all be proud of.

PARENTPAY ISSUE
We are aware of an ongoing issue with Parentpay meaning parents are unable to top-up lunch accounts.
This is out of our control, we ask parents to be patient and apologise for any issues this may cause. Students can still get food and a log is being kept of purchases.
