🚌 Bionics Bus Showcases Digital Healthcare Innovation at the Royal Cornwall Show
The Bionics Bus delivered two strong days of hands‑on biomedical engineering outreach at the Royal Cornwall Show before bad weather ended the event early. We engaged hundreds of visitors with EMG, EEG, VR and digital‑health demos, and successfully trialled the Bus’s new off‑grid power system.
"You could see the moment things clicked for visitors, when a child saw their brainwaves appear on screen or when someone realised they could control a prosthetic hand with their muscles. Those moments made the long days completely worth it.” Volunteer, CIDER (Cornwall Intellectual Disability Equitable Research)

🌡️ Heatwave Safety Reminder 🌡️
Stay safe in the heat - here’s what you can do right now 👇
💧 Drink water regularly - don’t wait until you’re thirsty
🪟 Close blinds on sunny windows & open them early in the day
🌬️ Use fans to move air across you, not just around the room
❄️ Head to a cooler space if needed
👕 Dress light & take regular breaks
Look out for those more vulnerable, including older colleagues, pregnant staff, and anyone with a heart or respiratory condition.
Know the signs ⚠️ Heat exhaustion: dizziness, headache, nausea, sweating
Heat stroke 🚨: confusion, very high temp, no sweating? call for help immediately
Stay cool. Stay safe. Look out for each other.

Congratulations to Assem Aimaganova, a final-year PhD candidate who has been awarded a highly competitive Early Career Fellowship of the Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) at the University of Warwick.
The fellowship will support the dissemination of research arising from her PhD, which focuses on developing interpretable biomarker-based methods for patient stratification and analysing biomarker interactions using incomplete and heterogeneous clinical datasets.
Assem is supervised by Professors Natalia Khovanova and Dimitris Grammatopoulos, and her research combines statistical modelling, machine learning, and systems-level analysis to investigate disease severity and thyroid–immune interactions in hospitalised patients, with a particular focus on extracting clinically meaningful patterns from sparse real-world healthcare data.
During the fellowship, Assem will publish manuscripts arising from her PhD work, deliver interdisciplinary seminars, and expand collaborations across biomedical engineering, data science, and clinical research.

👑💂Dr Modupe Jimoh attends Royal Garden Party 💂♀️🏰
Dr Modupe Jimoh attended a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on Friday 8th May following the announcement that she had been nominated by the Department for Education to attend in recognition of her outstanding contribution to education and/or children’s social care.
Modupe said of the event:
"It is a great privilege to receive this nomination and recognition. The garden party was a beautiful occasion, with people from all over the country in attendance. It was a pleasure to meet other attendees who were representing the academic community. The tea service was lovely, and it was nice to see the royals taking the time to chat with people. Attendees were free to stroll around the grounds of the garden while enjoying music performed by the Royal band. Overall, it was a lovely and memorable event."
On a previous occasion Modupe had attended the palace as part of the Association of Commonwealth Universities' Centenary Conference, hosted by Queen Elizabeth II, in October 2013 as a PhD Commonwealth Scholar at the University of Warwick.
