Warwick Volunteers enables students from University of Warwick to take part in community volunteering

Warwick Volunteers provides opportunities for students at the University to volunteer in a variety of roles, within the local community. We have a range of different projects - some require a regular commitment, whereas others are flexible and allow you to give as much time as you are able to. If you wish to advertise a volunteering opportunity on our page, please email us: [email protected]

Warwick Volunteers are thrilled to have hosted Warwickshire and Solihull Blood Bikes on campus as they presented certificates of recognition to five students who have clocked up an impressive 260+ hours of volunteering since they completed their training in December. As shift “Controllers” for the service, student volunteers take calls from NHS services needing products such as blood packs and medical tests collecting and delivering between different sites. Controllers dispatch riders, support them during delivery and assist with any issues that crop up as needed.

Jenny Hughes, Head of Information and Operations said “The University of Warwick is deeply proud of the valuable work our student volunteers have been doing in support of Warwickshire and Solihull Blood Bikes. Their time and dedication has been literally life changing for the beneficiaries of WSBB’s services and it’s an absolute delight to see their efforts recognised in this way. These students are amongst hundreds from the University sharing their energy and skills with the wider community every week through Warwick Volunteers, and I hope today will inspire even more to join them.”

We’re thrilled to share that yesterday not only did we have the privilege of a visit from Sophie Hilleary, , but that she presented Warwick Volunteers with a special award “in recognition of great and valuable services to the community”. Sophie spoke to representatives of some of our student led volunteering opportunities such as , , , and and surprised us by offering our current President a beautiful framed certificate conveying the appreciation of the people of Warwickshire “for activity and contribution in enhancing the life of the community”.

Recognition like this only happens thanks to the time, effort and dedication that our wonderful volunteers at put in every single day. It is a shared honour that we can all be proud of. Well done everyone! 🏆👏

Get involved with some outdoor volunteering: Help rejuvenate a woodland pathway by removing overhanging tree branches with loppers and saws. By cutting away the tangled wood, walking along the path will be much easier. A more attractive pathway will also encourage people to explore Park Wood, one of Canley’s ancient bluebell woodlands💛

Some of our volunteers doing Himalayan Balsam Bashing at the Friends of Canley Green Spaces💛

~Himalayan Balsam is an invasive plant that grows rapidly in fall dense colonies by brooks and rivers. Balsam has large leaves that block sunlight, causing native plant species to die. When Himalayan Balsam dominates the bank side, biodiversity is reduced. With fewer plant species, the brook supports less wildlife, endangering creatures like the water vole.
