This album features a unique blend of classical tanti saaj kirtan with an accessible katha in English aimed at a modern generation of Sikh sang*t.

The sabad - Re man kaun g*t - reflects a deeply profound message by Guru Teg Bahadar Sahib. The katha explores the profound message of 'bikhia ras miti'—how we often exchange opportunities for spiritual fulfilment in favour of temporary pleasures that ultimately bring suffering.

Drawing upon the teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, the katha recounts the inspiring story of Bhai Sihan (the masand associated with Dhir Mal) before reflecting upon the concept of sahib sankatve (distress, adversity, danger, difficulty or crisis), encouraging listeners to recognise the Divine presence even amidst life's greatest challenges.

Accompanied by Gurpal Singh Shoker (jori), Varinder Singh (sitar), Jatinderpal Singh Loyal (dilruba), Sukhwinder Singh Sehmi (surmandal), Ekminderjit Kaur (dilruba), Harsharanpreet Kaur (dilruba), and Jaskamalpreet Kaur (dilruba).

For nearly three decades, from 1997 onwards, Dr Harjinder Singh Lallie OBE and Narinderjit Singh Lallie travelled throughout the UK at the invitation of Sikh Societies, presenting traditional Gurmat Sangeet accompanied by katha in English. In some university terms they delivered more than twenty programmes across campus darbars, Sikh camps and television broadcasts, sharing the Guru's wisdom with thousands of young Sikhs.

Many of those students are now parents and continue to play these recordings to their own children, allowing the inspiration they experienced to be passed to a new generation. This collection preserves one of those treasured performances.

Recorded in loving memory of Dr Tara Singh (1970–2009), who sadly passed away on 17 September 2009.

Bhai Avtar Singh Ragi (1926–2006)
One of the foremost exponents of traditional Gurmat Sangeet, Bhai Avtar Singh Ji belonged to the 11th generation of a family devoted to preserving the sacred tradition of Raag-based Gurbani Kirtan.
Together with his brother, Bhai Gurcharan Singh Ji, he dedicated his life to researching, preserving and teaching the musical heritage of the Guru Sahiban.
His monumental work, Gurbani Sangeet Pracheen R**t Ratnawali, published by Punjabi University, documents 492 traditional Shabad compositions and remains an invaluable contribution to Sikh musicology.
Bhai Sahib was instrumental in reviving traditional Sikh instruments such as the Taus and remained steadfast in upholding the authentic maryada of Gurmat Sangeet throughout his life.
His legacy continues to inspire generations of musicians, scholars and seekers across the world.
