Overall aim
To provide a practical overview of the challenges and responsibilities associated with social media and young people in vaulting, while creating an open forum for coaches, parents and club organisers to share experiences, discuss challenges and develop good practice.
The session is not intended to be a detailed GDPR or safeguarding training session. Instead, it should give participants enough information to identify the key issues and then focus on how those issues work in real-life vaulting environments.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the session, participants should:
• Have a clearer understanding of what cyberbullying is and how it can affect young people.
• Understand some of the key considerations when clubs use social media and share information/images of young people.
• Have considered where the line between banter, disagreement and bullying might lie.
• Know what they should do if they become aware of cyberbullying involving members of their club.
• Have considered appropriate boundaries between coaches, parents and young people online.
• Have shared ideas and practical approaches that could be used within their own clubs.
• Leave with ideas for improving their club's social media and online communication practices.
