We are deeply saddened by the new that Queen Elizabeth ll has passed away.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and everyone around the world at this sad time.

May she rest in peace. 👑❤️
During the Holidays, we have been keeping the children busy with lots of fun activities to keep them stimulated and motivated. The older children have loved experimenting with different pizza bases, planting seeds from fruits, created their own cage for the Bear Hunt. In the baby room they have enjoyed playing with animals, paint and the staff have worked closely with the younger ones to support them with balancing and walking.
We extended the children learning more to bring them out of their comfort zones as we have had new children settling in over the holidays, we would also like to say well done to all the children and staff for making them feel welcome and at ease!.
Rainbow world!🌈
The children showed great enthusiasm while Exploring colours. They were encouraged by Emily to count all the items that they had collected. The children loved stacking and naming various colours that they could see, this developed their hand eye co -ordination and fine motor skills. Our older children categorised items by colour .
As the children were enjoying the water play we extended their interests further by providing emptying and filling tools so that the children can measure the water. We included some Under the sea animals to encourage them to fish them out while counting them one by one.
Over the holidays we have been having lots of fun playing with lots of water play, this week we have looked at making ice using different resources and talked about the difference in solids and liquids. The babies were encouraged to use their hands to feel the texture and were able to repeat simple words.
HEATWAVE IMMINENT ☀️🥵
As you are all probably aware, amber weather warnings have been issued in our region for Monday and Tuesday next week for extreme heat, with some areas in Coventry now under a red warning from the met office.
We wanted to reassure you that at present nursery will be open as usual and we will be taking steps to keep children as cool and comfortable as possible during this time. Please dress your children in light coloured, loose clothing and ensure you pack plenty of extras, Please also ensure they have sun hats.
Steps we will be taking at nursery include:
- Keeping children indoors during peak hours
- Suncream and hats outdoors
- Lots of ice and water play
- Keeping rooms well ventilated
- Ice lollies available
- Ensuring children remain hydrated with plenty of fluids
We will monitor the situation and keep a close eye on the children in our care. Children cannot control their body temperature as efficiently as adults during hot weather because they do not sweat as much and so can be at risk of ill-health from heat. We may ask you to come and collect your child if they develop signs or heat-stoke or heat stress.
Here is the guidance we have been issued by NYCC - I have attached it for your information as it has some useful advice and information on it as to what to do if you child becomes ill in the heat. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/heatwave-plan-for-england/looking-after-children-and-those-in-early-years-settings-during-heatwaves-for-teachers-and-professionals?utm_source=14%20July%202022%20C19&utm_medium=Daily%20Email%20C19&utm_campaign=DfE%20C19

We understand the day-to-day challenges faced by parents to leave their children at nursery and we have used our experiences to ensure our nursery is clean, safe and welcoming. We have a holistic approach to child development which seeks to simultaneously address the physical, emotional, relational, intellectual, and spiritual aspects of a child’s life.

All across the nursery this week, many different explorations have taken place. On Wednesday we celebrated St. David's day and explored the colour yellow and created our own daffodils. Preschool made dream catchers inspired by the colour yellow. World book day followed on from this, the children looked truly amazing in their outfits. We explored many different books and characters and brought them to life through puppet and role play.

During Half Term Week, the children have been very arty and explored with different colours. They created marks in trays and on paper with cars, objects that can move around easily and also paint brushes. The older children were able to describe what was happening when the colours submerged together and how they were made differently.

Happy St. Valentines! The children got stuck in with many different creative activities exploring the colour red. Cards and biscuits were made by preschool and 2 plus children to share with the ones they love whilst under 2's also created cards, explored red pasta and sensory play with heart shapes implemented in this. Preschool and many 2 plus children discussed who they love (family and friends) and identified what they can do to make them happy, giving cuddles, sharing toys or objects, using kind words.

Here is an insight of another explorative week across the nursery with enriched learning throughout. 2 plus have really taken a shine to counting and categorising different objects, matching colours and using mathematical language in their learning. Tots have been letter printing incorporated in messy/textured play and using different mark making tools. Preschool have explored different sounds they could hear in the environment around them and described the sounds and tempos created. They also enjoyed 'working in the office' roleplay and developing their knowledge of different job roles. The children have also been sharing their understanding of oral health and getting plenty of fresh air outdoors!

Welcome to another week of discoveries. Preschool have been developing their team building skills as well as their communication skills. They created a trail from bricks and pretended their was sharks around them in the water, they also created a den using sticks and foam balls and placed blankets and cushions in the den. Preschool have had an ongoing interest of phonic letters and oral blending which is carried out after our registration times. They have also been learning about their bodies and matching the body parts to complete the puzzle. 2 plus children mixed glue, food colouring and flour to create a slime mix. The children explored the textures and mark making tools were added. The staff talked about the textures and some of the children responded by saying what they could feel. Under 2's have had an ongoing interest of oral hygiene. The Under 2 staff created a fine motor skills activity which included pegs and cotton balls which represented teeth and placed them on the mouth templates provided. Home learning has also been carried out and parents have shared pictures and videos of their children brushing teeth at home.

This week, we would like to share new interests with you from all areas of the nursery. Preschool have been exploring the time with clocks. The children were able to identify the numbers and with staff support they investigated the purpose of the hands on a clock (what they represent). Some children also have been asking questions about the signs displayed around the nursery and the meanings of them, (no phones signs, wet floor signs) so a home learning task has been created to search for different signs while they are out and about. The children have also been very interested in trying to combine letters together to make a word, they have been sounding out the letters they could see and then worked together with staff to create words such as ''cat, sat, bat, car'' etc. Small world bugs have also been included in the children's interests, they have been sharing their knowledge or the life cycles of the bugs and some children identified caterpillars do become butterflies. 2 plus have been exploring textures and sensory items. Some of the children were able to describe what they could feel using simple words with support from staff, ''cold'' ''slime.'' To develop their interest further, paint brushes were added to create marks in the slime texture. The children have extended their interest of building train tracks and moving in different directions, they created their own track using soft blocks and using different ways to cross the track they made. Babies have been involved in colour mixing activities with paint and exploring the textures of this with their hands, they have also had an ongoing interest of the roleplay area. Pretending to cook, feed the dolls and themselves.

What a wonderful week this has been, across the nursery the children have been getting ready for Chinese New Year and learning about this. Lanterns have been made, fans from paper and even a life size dragon!
2 Plus children have also been focusing on concentration and thinking skills, this was supported by puzzle play and mark making whilst learning to grip tools effectively.
Preschool have also been carrying out their concentration skills with the matching picture bingo game in teams, constructing with the small wooden blocks and developing patterns with the mini pegs and boards.
Babies enjoyed getting messy with their Chinese New Year celebrations as well as exploring books and using different resources related to the story.

Photos from George Eliot Kindergarten's post 13/01/2023

This week has been very exciting and adventurous with new skills being developed. Babies and Tots portrayed an interest in musical instruments and sounds. They also used other resources around them such as metal items to bang with spoons and create very loud sounds. 2 plus experimented mixing different colour paints to see what may happen. Some of the children could identify what colours they were using and described what was happening during mixing them together. Preschool have developed an interest in shapes and matching, the children worked together to problem solve and support each other to match shapes and colours to the pattern boards to create pictures such as a helicopter, snake, cake and more!

Welcome back to those children who were off during the festive holidays, we hope you had a lot of fun and learning new skills each day. We also want to say a big warm welcome to our new starters across the nursery, we cannot wait to get to know you all and become part of your learning journey. Here is some snapshots of what we have been doing this week, Preschool were curious to add phonic letters and numbers in their water play, this has been an ongoing interest of the children in Preschool to find letters that are in their name and being able to sound the letters out correctly. Mathematical problem solving has also been a developing interest throughout Preschool. 2 plus children have been getting stuck in with learning about healthy and unhealthy foods. They contributed to food printing and had a little taste testing of different fruits. Baby room endured small world play and developing their understanding of the world through animal play and roleplay. The babies have been sharing their ongoing knowledge of animal sounds and have been mooing and meowing very loudly!

Babies and tots have been very busy with messy and creative play, from large-scale mark making to cornflower and cornflake play introducing jungle animals to this to create different shape prints in the cornflower. This activity is the start of our Christmas theme. This textured play helped the children to use their sense of touch. Farjana created another mark making activity with large paper and many different mark making tools for the children to create different patterns and make new colours representing Christmas lights. Preschool have developed an interest of caring for younger siblings. This interest then followed onto a role play activity that included role play baby dolls. Surinder introduced some water with bubbles, cloths, oils etc to demonstrate how we care for them and learn how to use the oil to massage the baby. Later, the children got the baby dolls ready for bed and a chorus of lullaby's were sung amongst the room with a gentle tone. This activity also helped support those children who are expecting new arrivals in their families.

Photos from George Eliot Kindergarten's post 25/11/2022

Across the nursery, many different messy and sensory explorations were created in awareness of Children in Need and exploring science week. The children and all staff dressed in Pyjamas or yellow and contributed small donations for the charity. Baby room had created a Pudsey Bear face using corn flakes, pom poms and lots of other resources to really put their fine motor skills to the test. They explored colours that represented the Bandana across Pudsey's face. This activity was very messy! 2 plus and preschool also created Pudsey using their own interpretations, creating yellow playdough and found teddy bear cut outs, making splatter paintings with many different colours, using tissue paper and participating in cutting activities to create a 3D Pudsey Bear. Science week was also very fun, Baby room and Preschool created sparkly slime using corn flour, shaving foam, paint and glitter. 2 plus took another approach to this and carried out a skittles and water activity creating a merge of colours when they were poured in water that developed into a cluster of rainbow rivers. An interactive board was also used with magic pens, the children created rainbow mark making patterns that shone through the light. It has been a wonderous week of learning, with plenty more to look forward to!

Photos from George Eliot Kindergarten's post 15/11/2022

Preschool and 2 plus have had an exciting week this week, the fire drill took place as a practice for the children to get to know the routine and how we safely leave the building in case of a fire. Preschool were very calm and collective, they followed instructions well and held each other's hands in rows of two. They walked down the stairs to the main door very sensibly as we made our way to our safety area across from the nursery. 2 plus followed suit with the children being very calm and alert and listening to instructions well. As preschool made their way back inside, with continued role modelling, they were very keen to talk about the fire bell and what the importance of this was. They discovered the fire Marshall costumes in the role play and pretended to be fire fighters. They also created paintings of what they thought in their mind about fires and fire fighters and created warm-like coloured paintings. 2 plus and preschool also created poppy artwork in remembrance of the armed forces and learning about the work they do for us. They used different ways to create them using, brushes, hands, pipe cleaners and lots of red colour letting their minds think like a canvas. Lest We Forget.

Photos from George Eliot Kindergarten's post 14/11/2022

Baby room have got stuck in with this crafty activity in remembrance of our armed forces and all the work they have done for us. They explored the colour red and made their own poppies with paints and many different art resources. This helped to develop their fine motor skills when grasping the paint brushes using a whole hand grasp. The children had lots of fun creating their own poppies and investigating the red colour. Lest we forget.🌺

This term, Preschool have had a jam-packed time. we have explored the garden area despite the weather being a little unpleasant, and the children have enjoyed exploring the autumnal colours that the leaves have displayed whilst being on the ground. We used our mathematical knowledge to count the leaves in sequence when the children have been collecting them using buckets, baskets and much more! We later created leaf printing paintings that turned out amazing. The children observed staff members creating different colours with paints and they were willing to have a go too. We have also been learning about the world around us, the children were particularly interested in post boxes and pretending to be postal delivery people. The children then did further research and homework that was provided to see what they can find in a post office and learn about the job roles of someone working there. Another interest that was in mind was learning about their bones and muscles as part of our developing knowledge of healthy body. We explored the elasticity of our muscles and how we can stretch them and over stretching can cause us pain. This was portrayed using playdough the children had made using different resources, we pulled the playdough to see what happens to it when it is pulled too much. The children came up with the hypothesis that the playdough would break! The children began to explore phonic letters and sounds and was able to identify some of them. We enjoyed celebrating Halloween and participated in many activities, creating ourselves as mummies by wrapping each other up, carving pumpkins and dressing up. We then took part in Diwali celebrations and created our own Divas, Rangoli patterns and explored light coloured objects. What a fun term we have had, we will look forward to another jam-packed few weeks again!

These past 3 weeks we have been focusing on settling the new children in different sections. We would just like to say a massive thank you to all the staff that have worked hard on doing this. The staff had provided many stimulating activities whether that's indoors or outdoors to keep them all motivated and always offered comfort when needed. Also it's been wonderful to see parents coming into the setting as well.
