And doesn’t this make sense! World Book Day can be such a fantastic way to celebrate and share our love of our favourite books and characters. Let’s make it accessible for all!

Brierley Hill Library's World Book Day outfit exchange is LIVE until World Book Day on Thursday March 6th. Bring along gently used past costumes and swap for something ‘new to you’ for your child to wear this year!

Dyslexia does not often stand-alone and often co-occurs with other difficulties. These other difficulties may be visual discomfort, attention and concentration, processing, anxiety, emotional or social difficulties, language or communication difficulties…..

After seeing Sarah at Dyslexia Coventry for a Dyslexia assessment, some clients continue their journey to discover why they experience other challenges and difficulties.
This might result in pursuing an assessment for ASC/Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia and more….
As a parent, it is always reassuring to go somewhere that someone else has been and recommends.
My good friend Sarah, a dyslexia assessor at Dyslexia Coventry has suggested many useful links, please see below.
Of course, I am always happy to help.

COVENTRY BOOK BANK
It is true to say it takes a village to raise a child.
The same can be said about charity. Without group participation, the impact is limited.
Thank you to every person who has donated to Coventry Book Bank this year. For all the wonderfully interesting people whom I have met and spoken to, thank you too.
As I reach the end of the year, it is suffice to say, I smashed my initial target of 100 books! Over 20,000 have been collected!!
This was never intended to be an ongoing initiative, but with new collection points being offered for 2025, I guess I will continue to provide books for children to keep at home.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Does your child struggle at school?

Do they feel despondent and afraid to participate in activities for fear of errors?

Do they sit back and let others shine?

If the answer is yes to any of the above, bring them to me.
IT IS THEIR TIME TO SHINE!
At the Reading Doctor, we nurture children and build their self-belief.
Once confidence grows, children feel better equipped to deal with mistakes.
Our approach is multi-sensory and promotes resilience in learning.

A huge thank you to Holly Goodwin from the Tutors' Association for delivering the first of our bespoke Safeguarding training sessions this evening. It's imperative that, as individual tutors, we know the channels to use and the services to reach out to when keeping children and young people we work with safe.

One of my lovely colleagues, Becky, shared a video with a parent identifying exactly how the Reading Doctor intervention impacts a pupil's confidence. Once a child can recognise their own worth, they can be open to learning and growing.
The impact of our support can be life-changing for pupils.
Watch and listen to the testimonial below and decide for yourself.

When we work in schools supporting pupils, we also support staff.
Today I delivered some professional development training to a wonderfully receptive group of teaching assistants.
I had a lovely morning with them.

Our initial assessments are detailed and thorough. They give us the opportunity to really establish what is causing each child difficulty when they read.

Verbal feedback can be a powerful tool to help students improve their learning: it is immediate.Effective verbal feedback is specific and focuses on my student's learning. It enables me to gauge the understanding of my pupils. It also encourages dialogue, allowing them to explain and qualify their comments.
Here are two conversations which took place this week.

The Coventry Book Bank
has been quiet over the summer while I have enjoyed a lovely holiday with my extended family in Ireland. I have got on to book number 5 and there may or may not have been some wine appreciated!
In the background, book donations have continued to flood in and tomorrow, almost 1,400 books will be collected by a dedicated senior leader and a Head Teacher and children in four schools will return to school with the lovely surprise of a new book to take home.
Additionally, I made a public plea for storage space. As per usual, I asked and I received. A stranger who I am yet to meet has kindly offered the use of her garage to store the books as they wait to be distributed to schools.
All this and the new academic year has yet to begin……..
