As a little girl, one of my favourite memories of the summer holidays was getting my new stationery ready for the start of a new school year.
I remember the excitement of choosing my pencils, notebooks and other new things, and looking forward to what the year ahead might bring.
I appreciate, though, that not every child feels this way about returning to school. For some children, the thought of a new school year can bring worry, anxiety or a feeling that school is simply not a happy or comfortable place for them. I believe that every child deserves to have somewhere they feel safe, valued and encouraged, which is why I make it my business to ensure that my Reading Room and School Reading Hubs are exciting, welcoming and positive places to be. My hope is that, even if school feels difficult, children can look forward to coming to see me, knowing that they will be met with patience, understanding and encouragement, and that their achievements — however big or small — will always be celebrated.
New multi-sensory resources are ready, the Reading Room has been freshly decorated and I am looking forward to seeing all of my pupils old and new next week.

This student arrived at my reading room this evening with such excitement! I spent the session assessing her and she still left with her eyes sparkling. I can't imagine how she'll cope when the real fun starts next week!
