VBAC - WTF IS IT?
If you’re expecting your first baby this term will be pretty irrelevant as it means ‘vaginal birth after caesarean’
If you have previously had one caesarean section and are having another baby, there are two options for delivering this baby:
1. To plan for a vaginal delivery. This is called ‘vaginal birth after caesarean section’ (VBAC)
2. To have a planned (elective) repeat caesarean section (ERCS)
As with all things birth, any decision SHOULD BE YOURS & it’s important you look at all your options & use your BRAIN 🧠 (see my previous posts - I’ll share to stories). VBAC isn’t for everyone & of course there are associated risks to consider, which can differ for anyone that may have had a complicated previous birth.
Have you had a successful VBAC? Or perhaps you’ve had repeat caesarean, how was your experience in making this decision? Let me know 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
Remember, everyone’s situation is different and there is absolutely no ‘one size fits all’ approach here!

WANT TO KNOW HOW WE CAN TRICK OURSELVES INTO FEEL LESS PAIN? 🪄
💥THE GATE CONTROL THEORY 💥
🪄This theory of pain describes, how non painful sensations can override and reduce painful sensations. This approach is not only psychological but more neurological
⁉️How does this work
- Pain is transmitted through the spinal cord to the brain. Both small and large nerve fibers carry information to the dorsal horn of the spinal cord
❌It goes like this- non painful input of distracting sensations close the gates/nerves to painful input
⛔️Experience of pain depends in part on whether the pain gets past a neurological "gate" in the spinal cord
🆘Open = More suffering. If gate is open by small nerve fibers, then pain impulses reach the brain
✅Close = Less suffering. If gate is closed by large nerve fibers, then pain is not sent
🤲This happens because the signal of touch moves faster than the signal of pain
☮️ There are many effective ways we can stimulate the brain to close the gate in labour, from water, heat & massage to tens machine & a comb
Follow for more information & tips about using a comb for the gate control theory
Have you thought about how you will trick your brain in birth????

🦄There’s endless misconceptions about hypnobirthing, one of the most popular one I hear is ‘it’s just about breathing’
😮💨Whilst of course hypnobirthing isn’t ‘just’ about breathing, the phrase ‘just breathing’ almost implies breathing techniques are a bit, you know, airy fairy. Which is why in my courses I always go through the importance of breathing, the science behind it & the impact it has on our bodies BEFORE I teach the 3 core breathing techniques to use for birth.
Here’s a quick summary of WHY hypnobirthing includes breathing techniques for birth:
💥 SUPPLIES OUR BIRTHING MUSCLES & ORGAN WITH OXYGEN, HELPING THEM WORK MORE EFFICIENTLY
💥 INTERRUPTS TRANSMISSION OF PAIN SIGNALS TO THE BRAIN
💥 STIMULATES PRODUCTION OF ENDORPHINS, OUR NATURAL PAIN RELIEVER
💥 REDUCES THE RATE OF EPIDURAL USE
💥 ACTIVATES MENTAL PROCESSES IN THE BRAIN THAT MAKE BIRTH SENSATIONS SEEM LESS UNPLEASANT
Have you thought about breathing techniques for birth?
Or have you used breathing techniques in a previous birth & found it beneficial? Let me know in the comments 👇🏻

⚖️BIG BABY SAGA ⚖️
Today’s society has somehow conditioned us to believe we cannot birth ‘big’ (heavier than 8lb 13oz) babies ourselves, unassisted & without complications
🚨 SPOILER ALERT… WE CAN🚨
Firstly, I should start by letting you know I had an un-suspected actual big baby, at home (9lbs 8oz) with no tearing or complications, so the proof is in the pudding, my pudding 👶🏼
👶🏼In most cases, suspected big babies turn out not to be big babies
👶🏼 The risks for actual big babies are still pretty low & even the highest risk (5-8%) being shoulder dystocia, 99% of babies make a full recovery from Erb’s palsy
👶🏼 So what can you do - well, the same things you should be doing regardless of the weight of your baby!! Break the negative cycle, focus on those birth hormones & stay relaxed. BREATHE YOUR BABY OUT & AVOID FORCED PUSHING
👶🏼 Have faith in your body & your ability to birth your baby, whatever their weight or size
✨YOUR BODY IS BUILT FOR YOUR BABY✨

I’ve had so many lovely new followers the last few weeks & I’ve also recently had a little branding shoot with the AMAZING so it’s only right I give you a little about me with an updated pic
👋 Helloooo, I’m Megan, wife 💍, Mum of 2 small humans 👧🏼👶🏼 + 1 fur baby🐶
🍩 I LOVE doughnuts (eat 5 at a time on the regular 😅🤷🏽♀️) & anything leopard print 🐆
✈️ I also love holidays & travel, pre covid we would get away as a family as much as possible (🤞🏼 can’t wait to get back to impulse booking flights)
🍼 What many people don’t know about me is I became a Mum when I was just a teenager (over a decade ago now!)… this completely shaped my life & although cliché, really was the making of me. I’ve been fanatic about birth ever since 🥰
🔥 I’m a redhead & definitely have the redhead fire personality (unfortunately for my husband 😆)
🥊 I’m strong minded & don’t take bullsh*t, I stand up for what I believe in & I’m very all or nothing 🤷🏽♀️
🤰Birth is my passion, I really could talk about it all day every day & this is why I’ve made it my mission to help parents prepare for the positive, informed & empowered birth they deserve!
Please stick around, your follows, likes, comments & shares make a massive difference 💙

💩 LETS TALK THE TABOO OF POO 💩
🐘 The elephant in the room... Poo during labour. Is it normal? Is it likely to happen? Will anyone notice? You’re probably thinking “OMG how embarrassing”
💩 Firstly, let me tell you 80% of us will poo at some point during birth
💩 Be that early labour when our hormones are released, letting us know something is happening or in the bear down stage of birthing
💩 This is highly common & midwives see it day in, day out. A vast majority of the time it’s cleaned up (or fished out of a birth pool with a net) before you or your birth partner even notice!!!
💩 SO LETS NORMALISE POO IN LABOUR - IT’S VERY LIKELY TO HAPPEN!!
