🌺Frida Kahlo-inspired hairdressers!

Today, our children transformed their hairdressing play through the wonderfully distinctive art of Frida Kahlo.

We explored Frida’s famous self-portraits, noticing her beautifully styled hair, braids, colourful flowers and bold accessories. The children then became creative hairdressers themselves—designing imaginative hairstyles and adding their own artistic touches.

As they looked carefully at their reflections, we introduced the concept of symmetry, noticing how the two sides of our faces are similar and exploring what happens when we create matching—or completely different—styles on each side.

This activity combined art, imaginative role play and early mathematical thinking while developing creativity, fine motor skills, observation and confidence. Most importantly, it encouraged children to celebrate what makes every face and every person unique

🥣 Learning begins at the breakfast table! 🍓🍌

Miss Keerthana, our Montessori-qualified teacher (with a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Hertfordshire quietly tucked under her belt too! 😉), had a wonderful vision: to introduce a children’s breakfast bar and ensure that every daily routine becomes a valuable learning opportunity.

Our children love being trusted with responsibility! They confidently make healthy choices, select their own breakfast and develop independence, decision-making and practical life skills—all while enjoying a nutritious start to their day.

Naturally, Miss Keerthana’s idea received the happy approval of LBA’s Healthy Eating Policy! 💚

Big ideas, made meaningful for little learners!

How do you introduce toddlers to a famous artist such as Wassily Kandinsky—or concepts such as concentric circles, patterns, colour families and capacity?

You bring those ideas to life through play! 💛

Our toddlers first explored Kandinsky’s colourful circles by using different-sized pine cones to paint, print and create circular marks. They then continued their learning through a colourful sensory activity, scooping, pouring, filling, emptying, mixing and mashing materials in a circular tray.

Complex ideas become meaningful when they are broken down into experiences that match children’s ages and stages of development. Instead of simply being told about circles, colours and textures, the children could see them, touch them, create them and talk about them.

Along the way, we introduced words such as circle, round, inside, outside, full, empty, rough, smooth, warm, cool, mix and pattern. The children were developing early maths, language, creativity, fine-motor control and problem-solving—all through joyful, hands-on exploration.

This is what intentional teaching looks like in the early years: skilled practitioners taking a big idea and making it exciting, accessible and meaningful for every child.

🚦 Learning About Directions & Road Safety 🚦

This week the children have been learning about left and right, stop and go, and how to follow directions through fun games and outdoor play.

We also talked about road safety — stopping at the curb, looking both ways, and staying safe near roads.

Building awareness, confidence and important life skills every day! 👏✨
