The importance of a ‘Key Person!’

In accordance with the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) every child must be assigned a ‘key person’🫶

A key person plays a vital role in an early years setting by providing consistent care, support, and guidance for a small group of children. Through regular interactions, the key worker develops strong, trusting relationships with each child, helping them feel safe, secure, and valued within the setting. 🌟

This close bond enables the key person to understand the child’s individual needs, interests, strengths, and stages of development, allowing them to plan appropriate learning experiences and support their emotional well-being.💛

Equally important is the relationship built with parents and carers. The key person acts as a main point of contact, sharing information about the child’s progress, achievements, and any concerns. By maintaining open communication and working in partnership with families, the key person can gain a deeper understanding of the child’s home life and provide tailored support where needed. 🌼

This collaborative approach helps to create continuity between home and the setting, ensuring that both children and their families receive the guidance, reassurance, and support necessary for positive outcomes.💫

Children enjoy playing with Doh as they squeeze, roll, pinch, flatten, and mold the soft dough into different shapes and creations. 💫

This hands-on activity encourages creativity and imagination while providing opportunities for exploration, self-expression, and communication. As children talk about their creations, describe what they are making, and share ideas with others, they develop their language skills, expand their vocabulary, and build confidence in expressing their thoughts and feelings.🌟

Playing with Doh also supports the development of manipulative skills and fine motor control. As children use their fingers and hands to shape the dough, they strengthen the small muscles needed for tasks such as writing, cutting with scissors, buttoning clothes, and using utensils. 💛

Activities such as rolling balls, making snakes, and using Doh tools help improve hand-eye coordination, finger dexterity, and grip strength. Through regular Doh play, children develop greater control and confidence in their movements, supporting their overall physical development and readiness for future learning tasks.🫶

Welcome to Wishing Well Day Care🪴

A children’s environment that inspires curiosity and wonder supports holistic development by encouraging exploration, creativity, independence, and meaningful learning experiences. 💫

When children are provided with engaging, child-led opportunities to investigate their interests, they become active participants in their own learning, building confidence, problem-solving skills, and a deeper understanding of the world around them. 🌟

Rich learning environments that value exploration, relationships, and hands-on discovery allow children to develop at their own pace while fostering a sense of belonging, wellbeing, and agency. 💛

The use of natural, authentic resources such as wood, stones, leaves, shells, and other open-ended materials further enhances these experiences by stimulating children’s senses, encouraging imaginative thinking, and offering endless possibilities for play and investigation. 💫

As children interact with these materials, they develop creativity, communication skills, critical thinking, and a connection to the natural world, supporting their cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development in meaningful and engaging ways.✨

While dummies can provide comfort and help soothe young children, there are no developmental benefits to prolonged dummy use. 💫

When a child frequently has a dummy in their mouth, it can reduce opportunities for them to babble, practise sounds, and engage in conversations with others, which are important foundations for speech, language, and communication development. 🌟

Children learn language through listening, imitating, and interacting with the people around them, and a dummy can sometimes act as a barrier to these experiences. For this reason, it is recommended that dummies are used primarily for comfort at bedtime or during times when a child is particularly upset, rather than throughout the day. 🫶

Limiting dummy use helps encourage children to communicate, express themselves, and develop their speech and language skills more effectively.💛

Construction Play🚧🔨🧱

Construction play provides children with valuable opportunities to develop a wide range of skills, particularly their gross motor skills. 🚧

As children lift, carry, push, pull, and arrange large construction materials, they strengthen their muscles, improve coordination, and enhance their balance and spatial awareness.🧱

Construction activities also support fine motor development through actions such as stacking, connecting, and manipulating smaller pieces.🔨

In addition, children develop problem-solving skills, creativity, and critical thinking as they plan and build structures. Working collaboratively with others during construction play further encourages communication, teamwork, and social skills, making it an important activity for supporting children's overall physical, cognitive, and social development. 🧱🔨🚧
