π₯ MONDAY AT COOKSEY'S COMBAT CLUB
Weekends like this are exactly why we're so passionate about what we do.
On Saturday, Coach Habib and I had the privilege of representing the Combat Sports Initiative at Bad Company Gym for the Gym King Γ Combat Sports Initiative charity event, working alongside the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Weapons Down Gloves Up, and some incredible coaches and volunteers from across the country.
The aim of the day was simple: to promote the values of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, support the work of Weapons Down Gloves Up and the Combat Sports Initiative, and show young people that there are positive paths available through combat sports.
Throughout the day, Habib and I worked one-to-one with the young athletes, taking pairs into the ring for freestyle pad rounds, offering coaching, mentoring and encouragement. We also captained the team games, helped behind the scenes, and spent time catching up with coaches and organisations who all share the same goalβusing combat sports as a force for good.
One of the best parts for me was seeing so many of the young people we'd first met six months ago at 2 Brothers Gym in Wirral. The improvement in their confidence, skills and attitude was incredible to see, and it's proof that consistency, good coaching and the right environment really do make a difference.
I also had the opportunity to speak with Lucy during an interview about why I choose to be involved in this cause. The answer is simple:
Because combat sports genuinely change lives.
They teach discipline, resilience, respect, accountability and self-belief. They create opportunities, build communities and give young people a place where they're expected to succeedβnot fail.
That's why we'll always support initiatives like this, and why those same values are at the heart of everything we do at Cooksey's Combat Club.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the day happenβGym King, Bad Company Gym, the Combat Sports Initiative, Weapons Down Gloves Up, the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, every coach, volunteer and, most importantly, every young person who turned up and gave their all.
Together, we're proving that combat sports can build far more than champions. They can build better futures.

This Saturday, Coaches .ccc and Callum Cooksey will be heading to Bad Company Muay Thai Leeds in Leeds to continue our work alongside the Combat Sports Initiative Weapons Down Gloves Up and members of the Royal Navy
& Royal Marines
These events are a huge part of what we're about. They give us the opportunity to keep learning, work alongside outstanding coaches and organisations, and continue supporting the next generation of martial artists through the wider combat sports community.
As a result, there will be no Saturday classes at the club this week.
If you're already planning on making the trip to Leeds, we'd love to see some familiar faces there. Come over, say hello, watch some great action and support a brilliant day of combat sports and community.
We'll be back on the mats next week, ready to get straight back to work.
Thank you, as always, for your support.

π₯ TUESDAY AT COOKSEY'S COMBAT CLUB
Tuesday means one thing at Cooksey's Combat Clubβ¦ another evening of learning, improving and enjoying the process. π
Tonight we're welcoming both our Junior Combat Club and Adult K1 classes to the mats.
Our junior sessions are about far more than martial arts. Every class is designed to help children build confidence, discipline, resilience and respect, while improving coordination, balance and teamwork in a fun, structured environment.
Then it's time for our adult K1 sessions, where we'll continue developing authentic striking skills through technical drilling, partner work and controlled application. Whether you're training for fitness, self-improvement or competition, every session has a clear purpose and a pathway for progression.
No matter your age or experience, our goal is the same: help every member leave a little better than they arrived.
If you've been thinking about joining, we'd love to welcome you to the team.

π₯ MONDAY AT COOKSEY'S COMBAT CLUB
A new week starts tonight, and there's no better place to set the tone than on the mats. π
Monday is our Open Sparring nightβbut we don't just throw people in and tell them to get on with it.
Every session begins with situational sparring and structured sparring drills, giving our members the opportunity to isolate specific positions, solve problems, and develop confidence before progressing into open rounds.
By the time we move into sparring, everyone has already been working on the skills they'll need.
At CCC, sparring isn't about "winning" rounds or trying to knock each other out.
It's about:
π§ Learning under pressure
π£ Improving movement, positioning and ringcraft
π₯ Developing timing, distance and decision-making
π Applying techniques in realistic situations
π€ Looking after your training partners
π Leaving the gym better than you walked in
We believe technical development comes first. The structured drills build understanding, the situational rounds build confidence, and the open sparring gives you the opportunity to put it all together.
Whether you're preparing for competition or simply looking to become a better martial artist, every round has a purpose.
If you're looking for a team that values intelligent coaching, continuous learning and a supportive atmosphere, we'd love to welcome you.

π₯ TUESDAY AT COOKSEY'S COMBAT CLUB
Another day on the mats, another opportunity to improve. π
Tonight we're welcoming both our Junior Combat Club and Adult K1 classes, with a shared technical theme running throughout the evening:
Low kicks. π¦΅
One of the most effective weapons in Muay Thai and K1βbut only when they're understood properly.
Across today's sessions we'll be working on:
𦡠Correct technique and balance
π£ Positioning and footwork
π― Timing and target selection
π§ Creating opportunities with combinations and feints
π₯ Defensive reactions and effective counters
For our juniors, it's all about developing strong fundamentals in a safe, structured environment while building confidence, coordination and discipline.
For our adults, we'll take those same principles and explore how they apply in Dutch K1, using drills and controlled partner work to develop skills that translate into live situations.
Whether you're 4 years old taking your first steps in martial arts or an adult looking to challenge yourself, every session is built around progression, good coaching and a team that wants to see you succeed.

π₯ MONDAY NIGHT AT COOKSEY'S COMBAT CLUB
Tonight's session is one that often raises a few eyebrows...
Traditional Thai-style technical sparring.
No gloves. No shin guards.
At first glance, it might sound more intenseβbut in reality, it's often the complete opposite.
Without big gloves and heavy shin pads, you can't rely on power or brute force. You have to rely on control.
Tonight is about developing:
π§ Timing over toughness
π£ Footwork over force
π― Accuracy over aggression
π₯ Balance, rhythm and composure
π€ Trust and respect for your training partner
When there's less protective equipment, there's a greater responsibility to look after each other. Every strike is thrown with intent and precision, not with the aim of overwhelming your partner.
It's a style of training deeply rooted in traditional Muay Thai, where technical development, control and mutual respect come before ego.
These sessions help our members become more aware of distance, improve defensive reactions, sharpen their decision-making and build confidence in a realistic but controlled environment.
It's not about "winning" a sparring round.
It's about becoming a better martial artist.
If you're looking to learn Muay Thai the right way, in an environment that values skill, discipline and continuous improvement, we'd love to have you on the mats.
