A very simple Easter themed sensory tray!

We've had this activity out a few times now and it's been wonderful to see how much it has sparked their attention and perseverance! (35 minutes and 25 minutes of engrossed play!)

Activities can be super simple and still have the most effect. I found that this;
Sparked their curiosity,
Provided opportunities to build vocabulary,
Develop their hand and eye coordination,
Refine their fine motor skills,
Develop an understanding of mathematical knowledge; volume, size, quantity,
Opportunities to share and take turns,
A wonderful sensory play,
Building on their concentration,
And deepening their perseverance.

(I've used dried painted chickpeas)

I cannot put it into words how wonderful it is to see how passionate my little ones are about books and reading. They already have such a love of books and it's great to see. Often, you'll see them taking themselves off to our quiet corner and finding a book they want to look at or coming along to pop themselves on my knee with a book clutched in their little hands.

Every week, we head to the local library. They have built up such a good relationship with the librarians there and head straight in ready to find some new books to look at.

This snapshot from today pretty much sums up my little ones. All snuggled up on the same sofa, each with a book in their hands. I like to add that this was all independently!

Happy St. Patrick's day to those who celebrated yesterday.

We started off the morning with a simple and followed by listening to Irish music and then a spot of Irish dancing ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

Today's adventure...

We had a great morning exploring and visiting as many animals as we could possibly see! Pigs, cows, horses, lamas, sheep, goats, ducks, chickens, snakes, beaded dragons, parrots, hawks, eagles. Pretty much half of Noahs ark! We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, stopped off for a spot of lunch before heading home to get the big kids from school.

Happy pancake day everyone!

We've had a 'flipping' brilliant morning. We've all had a go at flipping our pancakes and then tried our pancakes with a variety of toppings.

Photos of our community

As a way to help enhance our small world play, I reached out to parents and asked if they were happy to send us a photo of their house so it could be printed and laminated. These photos can be attached to some building blocks and they have been used frequently in our play with both the early years children and my before/after schoolers. Along with children's houses, I also printed out photos of places in our local community that we go to weekly.

I've found they've provided a great opportunity to develop communication and language amongst the children,

"Jenna that's where we see Karen!"
"Jenna door, door!"
"We've been on that bus!"

These are also wonderful to help children build an understanding of the local community around them. They've aided their imaginative play, and they've sparked their curiosity. It was great to witness children chattering away amongst themselves about their own houses or the school that they recognised was where their siblings attended.

Howdy, I'm not sure what's more shocking the sun shining (briefly) in what seems to be the longest winter or the fact that I'm posting on Instagram after nearly a year!

The need for childcare in our area seems to be increasing as well as the enquiries I'm receiving so I thought I would pop a post up on here with a few of the general questions that I get asked.

1) I am able to offer spaces where children are eligible for government funded hours. Also, in most circumstances, I am able to stretch the hours over the year too.

2) I care for Early Years children as well as school-aged children, so that means there is a possibility that siblings can stay together.

3) Unfortunately, I don't currently have any vacancies. However, I do have a waiting list that I'm more than happy to add people onto should a vacancy become available.

I would still like to encourage people to get in touch if they do have an enquiry, I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have. I'm contactable on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, email and the childcare website. Please allow reasonable time for a response during working hours, which are Monday-Thursday.

Whilst we were at the Cotgrave Library this morning, I was approached and asked if I knew anyone who would benefit from the support package offered to help parents with a baby who cries excessively.

I thought that putting it on my social pages it would help reach someone who would like support.

Please spread the word, details are on the leaflet on how to get in contact.

I hope you have all have a wonderful Easter. We're heading into the school holidays here so we've got 2 weeks of jam packed days with my children included.

What have you got planned?

I've stocked up our book shelf with lots of wonderful books for them to investigate!

Have a great week!

Spring watch ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿชบ๐Ÿต๐Ÿ›

Earlier this week, we headed out to find what signs we could see that Spring was on its way.

At our local school, we spotted frogspawn a few weeks ago, so we have been doing daily checks on it to see if we notice any changes. Hopefully, in a few weeks we'll see some little frogs!

Market day ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿซ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿ‡

Tuesday is market day for us, we love heading down to the local pub car park and having a nosey around at the local produce!

We have a chat before we go about what fruit we'd like to get for snack later on. This way, the older children who go to school can be involved too!

This is a great opportunity for the children to see what fruit and veg are available, we talk about how much they cost, and they get to handle money and interact with the cashier. All great learning experiences!

Do you have a local marker in your village?

Nothing like a spring clean and move around ready for the spring Equinox. I know it isn't till the end of this month but is anyone else desperate for spring pastels to lighten up everywhere?

The playroom is ready for another week of enriching play! Have a great week whatever you get upto! ๐ŸŒž
