Last week, we were absolutely thrilled to have author Christopher Edge in school. Christopher Edge has written texts that we study as a Trust and Year 5 have written a story based on his text, Escape Room. We could not believe our luck when we found out that he was going to visit our school.

Christopher spent the day with years 3-5 delivering workshops about his new book, How to Steal the Future. Children took part in activities and challenges linked to his stories.

A huge thank you to Bookmark Reading Charity for organising the day and choosing Wallbrook to receive the incredible gift of a visit from Christopher.

Our children were inspired to read more of his books and we hope to continue to build on their passion for reading.

🥊 Building confidence, resilience and ambition at Wallbrook.

Our pupils enjoyed a fantastic visit from BoxClever Mentoring, who joined us for an inspiring assembly focused on resilience, personal goals and the power of believing in yourself.

Craig and Cole shared their own journeys with our children, encouraging them to think about their aspirations and the importance of perseverance, positive choices and never giving up.

Pupils also took part in a non-contact boxing session, developing skills such as focus, teamwork and discipline while seeing how sport can support their confidence and wellbeing.

We are proud of our continued collaboration with BoxClever Mentoring and the positive impact their sessions have had across the academy this year.

Farewell to Sir Mark Grundy

Today, Sir Mark Grundy visited Wallbrook as part of his Farewell tour of the schools in his Trust.
The whole school gathered for a monumental assembly organised by Miss Rashid and staff. The children sang songs to Sir Mark and read poems and speeches. He was so impressed by their reading and singing abilities.

After, the Pupil Leaders enjoyed a drink and a cake with our CEO. The children asked questions about his career, his day-to-day role and they asked what he loved about Wallbrook.

Sir Mark shared that he loved how hard everyone works at Wallbrook and commended the children and staff for the journey our school has been on. Sir Mark has supported our school to achieve improving attendance figures, attainment levels that are higher than national averages in some areas and more importantly, we have created a school community where all the children feel loved and cared for. He was touched by how children interacted with one another during his visit. Children encouraged their friends to sing in assembly, they stepped aside to let their friends pass and they smiled at a child walking past them.

Sir Mark told the children to continue to be brave, be proud of who they are and shine.

This week we had a visit from Hayley who works for Hachette and Rocket Phonics. Rocket Phonics is our school phonics scheme.

Wallbrook were chosen for this visit as we are a school who teach phonics to an exceptionally high standard and we have achieved super results again this year.

Hayley visited each class from Nursery to Year 2 and was completely blown away by what our children can do. Children in EYFS were teaching Hayley key terminology linked to phonics!
Children were passionate about their phonics learning and were able to tell Hayley how they have been taught to read at Wallbrook.

Some of these pictures are examples of writing from our NURSERY children.

Thank you to our incredible teachers for having such high expectations of our learners and making phonics fun and engaging. The children have excelled because of the hard work and dedication of staff and of course, because of the effort that they put in.
Our children make us proud every single day.

This was a true celebration of our curriculum offer at Wallbrook Primary Academy.

Thank you to our Year 3 parents who joined us for their E3L assembly.

Children shared their learning from the it E3L theme ‘Catastrophe’.
They spoke confidently and fluently and even demonstrated what a volcano does with models they had made.

We were very impressed with their presentation skills and all of the knowledge they had retained. Well done!

Thank you to our new Reception families for joining us for stay and play today.

It was wonderful to see you all enjoying our learning environments and we loved that we had another opportunity to say hello and talk to you about next year.

Thank you to BoxClever Mentoring for visiting us today and delivering a truly inspiring assembly on aspirations and the benefits of mentoring and engaging in a sport like boxing.

Children listened to the journeys of Craig and Cole and what inspired them to mentor and coach boxing,
Some children then had a go at boxing with Craig!

Cole and Craig are role models for our children and are proof of what you can achieve when you work hard and set your mind to something.

We have absolutely loved working with BoxClever this year as they have delivered PE sessions to every year group across our school.
We are looking forward to working with them again in the future. 🥊
