Worried your child isn't "fast enough" for a swimming club? That's not how this works. We've got squads for all abilities, and the first session costs nothing. π
DDSC Towcester Academy runs every Thursday, 6:30 to 8pm at Towcester Leisure Centre, and we're looking for new faces to join us.
It's the step up after Learn to Swim. Proper coaching, a squad to train with, and the chance to race for a local club that's genuinely competitive. We've got squads across a range of abilities, so nobody gets thrown in at the deep end (well, not in the scary sense anyway).
β
High quality coaching
β
A friendly, competitive local club
β
Squads for all abilities
β
Training that builds towards racing
Swimmers need to be at Towcester 'Learn to Swim' stage 5 or 6 and above. First session is a FREE TRIAL, so come and give it a go before you commit to anything.

It was high elbow focus with one of the training community yesterday.
Her focus to work hard and understanding was a pleasure to coach.
Now she's back at training with her club ,it will be great to see how she does at the County sprints in September.

I really enjoyed my time away in Pulawy over the past few days.
The opportunity to check out their training complex was well worth it , from the athletic / football arena to the swimming pool was time well spent.
As I headed back to Corby it made me think about the power of sports for the body and mind and what an impact to a child's development both now and in the future.
So no matter what challenges we face let's make sure we give an opportunity to every child ,the chance to play sports and teach them that sport is more than just winning or losing.

What an amazing day at the wedding of Mr and Mrs Campbell.
Experiencing a Polish wedding for the first time which was brilliant ,the food , drink and most importantly their warmth towards our family was so incredible.
Wishing the happy couple all the best for the future

During the week I heard someone complain about kids being in the lanes swimming and I couldn't help myself but check in with them.
The swimmer thought it was only adults that are allowed to go into the lanes which helped me move the conversation towards lane swimming being based on the ability of the swimmer and not age.For a young child moving into a lane to swim takes a lot of confidence.
As I coach I encourage our swimmers to be respectful if they are in a public lane swim ,to ensure they are following the flow and not hanging on the wall between sets.
For me this part of the confidence that I am trying to give them , which supports their development in and out of the pool.
I want them to do the thing they love
I want them to grow into confident young people
I want them to have the skills to grow
So as adults let's ensure we aren't jumping to the wrong conclusions and support the next generations growth.
It's more than just swimming we are building.

I really love the conversations about improving ,as it tells me that they are thinking about improving.
But it's their actions that really shows me if they want it.
I can't dress it up any clearer than that
Yes they might have off days but if they need their coach to keep them honest in training, remind them of the skills they have or the right behaviors it means they're not taking responsibility for their development.
Let your actions speak louder than your words

During the week I was lucky enough to catch up with one of our swimming community about their recent gala.
As part of the catch up we spoke about what worked for her and what was her learnings
The area of improvement was wall work and her gasping for air after the turn.
We have highlighted the steps that she'll take into training to help develop this skill
What impressed me the most about the catch up was the increased awareness of skill ex*****on detail and less about just her race times.
Skills build development
Development builds understanding
Understanding builds better races

Totally random thought ,over the past couple of weeks I have seen a lot of the county swimmers take part in the Welsh and the Scottish age group national galas.
Most of them will get support from other clubs at the event but just imagine if we had a coach from one of our local clubs there to support them .
It would be like we create a Northamptonshire support network, for swimmers and parents.
Just a thought?
Let's think differently
Let's grow our swimmers
Let's.do it together
