Last night it was a trip over to the Bingham arena in Nottingham for the first round of the Arena league.

I always love our trip over there and last night was no exception. For some of our swimmers it was a step up in competition and intensity but I couldn't have been more proud of their effort in the pool.

With every placing making a difference to the end result it shows which swimmers can race and not give up because they're not first.

Now it's back to training to get ready for the next set of galas before round 2 next month.

I really enjoyed trying out a new type of swimming noodle at ducks lessons today.

Its main aim is to support a swimmer's body position by keeping their legs up , with an area for their head to go into the water and handlebars to keep the body nice and long.

I'll be giving them a go over the next few weeks to see if they make the impact that I am hoping for , which is to improve the learning process.

Saturday night it will be a trip over to Nottingham for the 1st round of the East Midlands Arena league.

It's a great opportunity for the swimmers to compete against a great level of swimmers and an opportunity to see them demonstrate their racing skills.

No matter what the result is on the night ,if they give their all and have a smile on their faces I couldn't ask for anything else.

Great to meet a new member of the SRD community at Uppingham last night.

The young swimmer is a tri and club swimmer and last night it was about looking at their stroke and setting some training standards. These will form the foundations for the next couple of months sessions as we look at improving their 200m FRC time.

Now that the seasons are changing this is when a coach needs to ensure that we are engaging more than ever with the kids to help them through the winter arc of their training cycle. When the nights , weather and temperature change it's easy to use that as an excuse to miss training but it is this period that sets you up for next year's county , regional championships and the tri season.

So don't go into hiding this winter , embrace your development journey and put the work in .

Absolutely loving playing about with an amazing app that a swim parent made me aware of last week

Poolside progress app helps you track your swimmers times v's their county and regional qualification times.
It can be set to all the different counties and regions based on your swimmers home club

So why don't you go and have a look at it and tell what you think.

I am not on commission but just think it's an amazing app to help us keep track of our swimmers times.

After a busy weekend of racing and a day of catching up with other results across a number of different galas and swimmers it's a time for some reflection.

If this weekend taught me something it was never to underestimate the power of having great people around you.

At home I have the backing of an amazing wife that gives me the love and support to keep chasing and a family that understands I might not be there for everything.

Within the club we have a great team spirit that knows that we are all in it together , some days will be better than others in terms of our development journey, But we know that the kids come first no matter what.

The wider swimming community that share the same passion and love of grassroots sports that give up their time , energy to give the kids no matter what club they come from all the encouragement and guidance they need to improve.

I am a firm believer that if we keep as many kids in love with sports for as long as possible we set them up for the rest of their lives to be active.

At the weekend I had the amazing opportunity to watch a swimmer I have been lucky enough to support ,compete for the first time,even though I have been supporting her for the last 2 years.

After a chance meeting with her and her dad we have been working together during clinics and catching up through emails over the last 2 years.

So getting the opportunity to watch her gave me so much joy. Thanks to the Corby girls for making her so welcome and cheering her on , thanks to the team managers for making sure she knew where to go and when while I was coaching the squads

After the gala we had the opportunity to go through the races face to face and the one thing that filled me with the most pride was I was now talking to a confident young woman that understands that to improve you firstly need to be coachable and do the work when no one's watching.

So Niamh thanks for coming to Corby and smashing it.

So proud of the swimmers at today's gala.

From the swimmers that swam at their first gala ,to others that were working on their racing skills.

It's always work in progress but that's why it's such an amazing sport in and out of the pool.

It's about the skill development done at training ,to the race plan and how you focus on getting better that makes the difference.

Let's do it all again tomorrow.

Tomorrow some of the kids that I am lucky enough to coach will be taking part in the English Schools' Swimming Association secondary school's gala in Warwick.

For some this will be their first time representing their school and not their club . They will be part of a new team , part of a team that will have different abilities , part of a team that will grow together during the gala.

But most importantly they will be doing something they love.

So ladies go and enjoy the experience ,go and have fun and I look forward to hearing all about the gala over the weekend.
