🍂 What a busy half term in Primary 5!

🌳 We explored our school grounds, identifying trees by their leaves, fruit and bark, and measured their circumference to estimate their age.

🎨 We created colourful autumn artwork and paintings showing how trees change through the seasons.

🔢 In Numeracy, we used base ten equipment for vertical subtraction, digit cards for place value and games to practise mental maths. We also sorted 2D shapes using Venn and Carroll diagrams.

📰 We investigated newspaper features, matching headlines to articles and captions to photographs, and explored The Worst Witch through reading, drama and role play.

💻 Our animation skills grew as we created falling autumn leaves and used stop motion to bring broomstick formations to life!

💚 Through Take 5 and Nurture in 5, we continued to develop our wellbeing, social skills and positive friendships.

P4 Learning Highlights: September & October

P4 have thoroughly enjoyed exploring our topic Home Sweet Home alongside our class novel, Flat Stanley.
Literacy: The children have enjoyed describing their own homes using key vocabulary and detailed descriptions. They used their imagination to write about the adventures they might have if they were Flat Stanley and shared their ideas with their classmates. As part of an outdoor learning activity, we explored alphabetical order by arranging ourselves alphabetically and revisited the correct use of upper and lower case letters. Throughout the term, we have continued to develop neat handwriting, good presentation skills and accurate use of punctuation in our written work. We have learned about explanation texts and their key features.

Numeracy: This term P4 have been learning about place value, exploring hundreds, tens and units and using these skills to work with larger numbers. During outdoor learning activities, the children estimated and measured using metre sticks and then measured their own heights. We recorded and compared our results before using the data to answer questions. One of the highlights was discovering which children were the same height as Flat Stanley!

World Around Us: As part of our Houses and Homes topic, we have been exploring different types of houses and homes from around the world. The children took part in STEM challenges and built their own house models. The creativity, effort and enthusiasm shown in these projects were fantastic. We were incredibly impressed by the children's ideas and attention to detail and they should be very proud of their finished creations.

PE: This term, we began a block of hurling sessions with Colm. The children have thoroughly enjoyed developing their fundamental hurling skills.

Mrs Conlan’s class thoroughly enjoyed performing their Grow in Love assembly, “Following in Jesus’ Footsteps.” The children represented our class wonderfully and made us all very proud.

This morning, Mrs Conlan’s class proudly presented their Grow in Love assembly, “Following in Jesus’ Footsteps”.

Through prayers, songs, poetry and drama, the children shared the message of how we can follow Jesus in our daily lives by showing kindness, helping others and caring for those around us.

The children sang beautifully and performed with great confidence and enthusiasm, demonstrating all the hard work they had put into preparing for the assembly. Well done, P4!

🌳🔥 Primary 6 Forest Schools – Day Two 🔥🌳

Our Primary 6 pupils returned to Hill of The O’Neill, Dungannon for the second day of their Forest Schools programme, and it was another fantastic day of hands-on outdoor learning! 🍂

This time, the children developed their fire-lighting skills, learning how to safely light, manage and extinguish a fire. Of course, no campfire experience would be complete without making some delicious s’mores! 🔥🍫

The pupils also put their creativity and practical skills to work using hazel wood. They learned how to carefully cut and whittle the wood before transforming their pieces into their very own woodland characters. 🪵✨

It was brilliant to see everyone listening carefully, trying new skills and growing in confidence throughout the day.

👏 A big well done to all of our Primary 6 pupils for their enthusiasm, excellent behaviour and willingness to get involved in every activity. You were fantastic ambassadors for our school, and we are very proud of you all! 🌟🌿
